the intention is to stay in the market, bob, something that Aubut was willing not to do in 1997 when he lost the Nordiques to begin with.......

Aubut try to kept the team in quebec city but he is not able to talk to the mayor, because he was not interest in a new bulding.

C'mon stop telling false thing, you live in Maine and not in quebec city

Apparently a Calgary businessman was at the Rangers/Coyotes game tonight with Mr. Bettman.

Bob:

and Phoenix isn't coming to your city....

Daly just released a statement... "It is the league intention that we will stabilize the Phoenix situation to the degree that a new ownership group can and will be found to retain the Coyotes in AZ (Phoenix or Glendale)...."

NOTHING has changed since the announcement that the Coyotes were decreed by Judge Baum to play this season in AZ.... the only difference is now Moyes will now not be part of the future solution as to the future of this franchise......

11.6 million in claims purchased by NHL
I wondered if they would try this. No little guy left behind, then remove conditions from their bid.

Seems they also decreased it.

Moyes' $30 MM guarantee was the short and curlies they yanked him by?

Maybe it's just having trouble letting go of a great story coming to an end but -- anybody else have the feeling that there's a surprise chapter yet to come?

Not really. The league has won on every count. Balsillie is done. Moyes is done, other than the lawsuits. There's nothing really left to surprise anyone with.

Anything is still possible going forward, except of course Balsillie getting this team. I expect Ice Edge to buy the team and keep it in Glendale, if that fails, I think the team will end up in Winnipeg. I wonder with all of the quotes I've seen claiming Canadian cities and provinces will not pay for arenas, what are QC's chances of getting $175 million from the Feds, $175 million from the province and $50 million from the city. Does a request like this have to go to a general election?

Except a Cup run by the Coyotes.

I wonder if Ice Edge still seriously wants to play games in Saskatchewan?

I don't think so (pending review of the final offer later this week, of course). It appears that Moyes' guarantee is live and in play still to its full $30 million vlaue.

It is more the case that he beginning of the season and the resultant inevitable substantial and rapid ramp-up in the DIP financing was the NHL's main source of leverage. THe longer the delay, the higher the DIP financing and the lower the amount of money which goes to the estate.

After the sale, the next step will be the suit against Moyes by the NHL to recover against their guarantee. That suit will take a while, as the NHL's damages are still crystallizing. I suspect that it will eat up most (if not all and hten some) of Moyes' bankruptcy recovery.

At the end of the day, this has been an absolute fiasco for Moyes in every respect. He must rue the day that he decided to collaborate with Balsillie, as it cost him not less than $40 million. Try that one on for size.

Yoiks!!!!

I've heard nothing from Jones, et al, that there is any change in that desire.

We have not seen what the deal with Glendale might be on a new arena contract. We have not had a (final/)firm offer from Ice Edge go before the Board of Governors.

Much to be learned.

But what would they use it for if the creditors are satisfied by settlement in BK?

I was thinking they would quickly exceed their bid during the season in added DIP and that would start to eat directly into his guarantee to satisfy secureds (SOF).

Actually, that's funny. The unsecureds will not be fully satisfied. So Moyes' $30MM will be used to make them as whole as possible? So he'll get his share of his own guarantee?

That's a kick in the net on your way out.

I don't see any winner in this affair, in spite of the fact that the NHL position prevailed through the process. I suspect it will come in drips and small steps, not a great Third Act.
