TOR/EDM Schenn !

To Edmonton:
Luke Schenn

To Toronto:
Andrew Cogliano
Ladislav Smid
Linus Omark
2010 2nd Round Pick

Edmonton desperately needs a pure stay-at-home, reliable defenseman; they also need a dynamic young player to build around. Schenn brings this, and leadership qualities as well (captain material).

Toronto would have to get back a roster defenseman from the Oilers, and Smid is hardly a throw-in. He's a solid stay-at home dman with limited offensive upside. Andrew Cogliano is a good young 2way player who can play all situations. Brings scoring as well to the Leafs lineup.

Linus Omark, in case you haven't heard, is a dynamic offensive talent picked up in the 4th Round in 2007. He's a small forward but has the potential to fit in like Martin St. Louis did. He's signed in the KHL for this season, and could very likely play in NA next season.

Think about this proposal for a few seconds, and then grill me !

slow start does not equal trade away fan favourite and 19 year old franchise cornerstone. leafs wouldnt trade schenn for a top 5 pick last year (IIRC). they wouldnt trade him for this package, slow start or not

I love Schenner.

Toronto is not trading him at all. Not a bad proposal at all, but again, we're not trading him.

Edmonton says no.
Toronto says **** no.

Cogliano and Smid are nice. The two alone, maybe. But I'm personally very high on Cogs.
Omark is a question mark (Yes, rhyme)
And a first rounder?

What a ripoff. I'm not saying Schenn doesn't have tons of upside, but this deal doesn't work for Edmonton at all.

Smid is the best thing we got out of the Pronger deal. He's improved by leaps and bounds every year.

2 seasons ago he almost didn't look like he belonged on the team.
Last year he started using his size and weight to his advantage, but Grebs and Gilbert looked to be much more valuable players.

This year he's played absolutely incredible. When Souray comes back there's a good chance that Smid and Lubo will be our top pairing. So you've put one of our top pairing defenseman in the deal and his cap hit is less than 1.5M this year and next. Dream on.

Andrew Cogliano is tradeable because he's having a hard time finding a place on this year's roster which gives him a respectable amount of minutes.

Linus Omark has been nothing short of a sensation over in Europe. There's no way in hell that we trade him before we see what he's made of in the NHL or at least in the AHL.

The fact that you threw a 2nd rounder into the deal suggests that this was made out of pure sarcasm.

Switch Schenn with Kessel, and you've got a deal.

Smid is better than Schenn. I don't care about age.

And wtf is with leaf fans trying to trade Schenn? He's a top 5 pick. He's not getting moved especially on a last place team. Get over it.

EDIT: huh, oilers fan ...

Differences in the situations.

a) The Oilers had all the leverage because Heatley had demanded a trade.
b) Schenn is younger and probably the last player the Leafs organization would trade.

But Schenn was the 5th overall pick in his draft! He has to better than Smid, he was only the 9th overall pick in his draft!

The Leafs don't want to trade Schenn, but as an Oiler fan, I'd make the deal if Smid was out and one of either Grebs or Gilbert was in the deal instead.

I was going to say "No Gagner, no care" but this proposal is actually pretty decent. I really like Smid.

Can't see Toronto trade Schenn... it's a very nice package, especially since Cogliano and Smid ain't very old, but even then...

Sounds like a basis for a good deal

Cogliano is certainly fits Toronto's need for a good centermen, but not at the price of Schenn. Burke probably wants at least both Cogs AND Hemsky, maybe even a pick or two.

Unless I'm wrong, Edmonton has enough defensemen. They need playmaking wingers and centermen right now, not give them away.

yeah, it was gonna be Gagner and Omark originally but I decided on Cogs instead. I don't think Smid, as good as he's been all year, is better or has more upside than Schenn.

Really how much of a difference is there in there upside?

They pan out to be almost the same style of player for the most part, and a similar draft pedigree.

Edmonton says hell no. Schenn's upside isn't that much better than Smid's that we'd need to throw in Cogliano, let alone Omark and a second.

Doubt Edmonton does Gagner straight across for Schenn.

I think Penner would be a key ommission from this deal.

Value-wise, it definitely is enough, but I don't think Schenn is on the trading block.

Pass from an Oiler fan. I don't know how much more upside I see in Schenn over Smid. I sure as hell wouldn't trade Smid and than an additional Cogliano+Omark+2nd rounder.

Stupid proposal. The Edmonton fans were funny though in this thread, assuming it was a Leaf fan then figuring out it was one of theirs.

How so is Smid better than Schenn? I'd rather have Schenn over Smid any time if I could. Laddy is great, but Schenn just has that great physical aspect to him.

Huge pass from an Oilers fan.

Smid is quickly developing into a solid shutdown guy. He has pretty solid puck carrying as well. Then we toss in Cogliano+Omark and a 2nd. Holy overpayment Batman.

Smid+2nd for Schenn is probably the best I'd give up. Which isn't gonna please Leaf fans. So this trade is kaput.
