Something tells me that Holland will ride this thing out with Ozzie and Howard. Detroit's rough start is probably being magnified x100 because Wing fans have been so used to dominance. It is only October after all. That said, shouldn't Daniel Larsson be given a look before a trade is made so early in the year? His numbers aren't stellar, but he is coming off a shutout. Who knows, maybe he could be the goalie who comes out of nowhere this season.

Send Abdelkader to Grand Rapids, trade Lebda/Meech for any sucker willing to take them, call up Kindl, waive Howard, call up Larsson.

I think a goalie trade should be the first thing.

The defense/goaltending of this team is such an ungodly disaster. I can't stand watching these guys anymore.

...and the worst part about it, is nothing will be done. I think it's pretty safe to assume we can write off the 09/10 Red Wings... this team is going nowhere but down.

It's a good thing you didn't see them in Edmonton tonight then

He had to. If he didn't, he would've been forced to change his last name to "Campbell."

offense has been good enough the last 2 games.

obviously, goaltending needs to be better.

PK needs work. when the box moves, players move out of position too much. it seems that 1 or 2 PKers will sort of drift--not staying in the structure and not being aggressive.

turnovers are still a big problem.

any news on filppula?

I've always like Rafalski and was really happy when we signed him, but he is playing horrible right now.

A lot of us complained about the 2 year deal that Lilja signed but him over Lebda right now would be nice, and Lilja and Rafalski actually seemed ok when they were together last season.

I would be happy with pairs of

Lidstrom - Kronwall
Stuart - Ericcson
Lilja - Rafalski

Ericcson is playing very poorly defensively this season but is actually shooting well and doing ok on offense, it might be worthwhile to pair him with lidstrom for a couple oif weeks too and just see how that goes

Lidstom and Ericsson should be the default first pairing, and Lidstrom should simply focus on the defensive side of things at even strength. But that doesn't solve our PK woes, where Ericsson is our #4 defensive penalty killer, and as scary as it is, hes our best option over Lebda and Raffi.

It was nice to hear Kenny mention how Holland thinks the 25-35 game mark is where you separate the contenders from the pretenders. I'm guessing he'll assess the Wings roster around the 20 game mark and get on the phone if things haven't changed.

It's time to bring back the petition to bring back Fedorov to play defense then lol

Umm... yeah, I did, which is exactly why I made that comment.

...and I seriously hope that you're not justifying that group's overall play (especially Howard and Rafalski in particular). The fact that the Wings still gave up five goals in tonight's game (and nine in the last two games) is just indefensible if you ask me.

what should we do? keep looking up at the sky and wait for it to fall chicken littles.

seriously though, after over a decade of absolute dominance, if we falter a little this season, of which there's plenty of left, who cares, it happens. according to every naysayer outside detroit, we've been due to falter for the last 4 or 5 years. Hell, maybe this will get Holland to quit resigning our retreads. I know williams and bertuzzi have played better than most the team lately, but my point still stands.

Here we go.

Trade Rafalski for Bergfors & Salvador (to soften NJ cap hit) straight up.

Trade Leino to what ever team for a second/third pick.

Waive/trade for scraps/send to to minors if possible: Maltby, Lebda, Meech.

Sign Nylander. He's a puck posession guy who would thrive in Detroit.

Bring up Kindl.

That gives us a cap where we are about 5300 000$ under the limit.

Bring back Shanahan from retirement for this season, he's a free agent, right?

Franzen & Filppula out with injuries.

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Shanahan

Bertuzzi-Nylander-Cleary

Williams-Helm-Eaves

May-Draper-Holmstrom (pp)

Lidstrom-Ericsson

Kronwall-Salvador

Stuart-Kindl

Pylon1
Pylon2

Or we don't sign Nylander, and instead bring up a prospect. Ritola?

A guy can dream, right

Detroit has 2 offensive superstars in Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Why doesn't Detroit use them like every other team uses their superstars. Give them each 5 minutes a night on the PP and double shift them. I don't think we need to make a trade, just hand these guys more ice time.

Fire Holland before the re-signs Osgood because he thinks he's a legitimate starter.

He is a legitimate starter, for under 2m a season. Not many like that out there.

However, the quality of the starts aren't exactly there consistently which ****s everything up. I'm not sure what Holland is going to do, but with a guy who can stop the puck more than once every other game this team could withstand a couple of injuries.

Many here last summer said let the young guys play. Well so far it's not working. Helm has been average at best, Abdelkader maybe average and Leino has been a bag of pucks.

one thing that is really missing is zetterberg. i know he's getting some points but he is nowhere near as dominant as he was before he signed that big contract. all he does is skate into the zone, turn around and look for someone to pass the puck to. if he goes any farther than the hash marks he gets it taken away fairly easily. there was obviously a decline in his play last year but so far he is looking even worse.

Move the team to Hamilton!!!

The panic in here is hilarious...especially since this team wasn't winning a SC, much less making the finals this year.

Even in a transistion year, Detroit is still a playoff team. That is, unless the injuries keep piling up and one-time goaltender of the future Jimmy Howard is your everyday starter.

Just goes to show how spoiled people have gotten with all the success this franchise has had for almost two decades now.

Yeah it was really ugly. I was still holding out hope for Howie, but I can't remember the last time I've seen a Wings goalie bumble through the crease and fight each shot life and death. Now with Flipper gone, I'm beginning to panic...

Denial over what?

This team was heading out in the first or second round anyhow.
