You're lost if you don't think Babcock was hoping Ericsson would be the moderately physical, team-leading shot blocker, PK specialist that Lilja was to this team this season. Yes, there are bigger plans for Ericsson in the future, but Ericsson's current role on this team was to essentially do everything that Andreas Lilja did. He doesn't. He sucks at blocking shots, uses the body even less often than Lilja does, and is abysmal on the penalty kill.
Oh please. You're talking about Lilja again, as if he was "phenomenal."

Still wish they would have kept the younger, bigger*, cheaper guy with more of an upside. Grrrrrrrrrr.

*Lilja is 6'3" and 230 lbs; Q is 6'1" and 207..... yet I always felt like he played a "bigger" style of game.
No matter how you felt about it at the time, letting Quincy go was a mistake. I never really understood it. I thought he showed plenty in the playoffs in 07.

I think I was picked on mercilessly for defending the decision!

Well, that's how I'll remember it, but yeah, he was the first in line in 07, did everything expected of him and then he was the one cut. Never did figure that out. I just felt that if as a rookie he could do that well, imagine if he got some real IT with the team, and the chance to play alongside the vets. All the other guys talk about how playing the superstars helps them learn (Lebda mentored by Cheli, Kronner by Nick, etc.)... There was virtually no risk either seeing he was only getting paid about $500K per yr.

I'd rather not get sucked into another Quincey debate, but given the fact that he never would've gotten anywhere near the IT in Detroit he got in LA or now in Colorado what exactly do you think he would be doing right now in Detroit?

He'd be the solid defenseman on the third pairing. Or moved up to the top four when one of those guys gets injured. Or maybe someone would have noticed that he's decent on the PP point, and maybe Babs would realize he doesn't always need a forward who is half the player, if that, that Feds was on that point........

Recall though that my opinion was to let Lilja leave for cap reasons. It might have made a difference for the UFA/RFA season where we lost a bunch of players.

I think right about now, he'd be playing instead of Lebda
Or even pushing Jonny E for his spot
