Randy Jones on Re-Entry Waivers Edit: Claimed by LA

per TSN Ice Chips

I wonder if another team asked Philadelphia to put him on waivers, or if the Flyers are bringing him back up for themselves?

Let's ask Flyers fans.

Flyers fans: Do you need a d-man? Did a d-man get hurt?

Or if another trade has been made with a different Philly D-man?

Who knows, we'll find out soon enough.

If someone claims him, Philly is on the hook for half the salary instead of none if they just kept him down. Holmgren better pray no-one takes him.

Maybe Bob Murray takes him just to see if that really is the bottom of the barrel.

Seriously, at ~1.4 it isn't that bad for one season.

Does Philly even have the cap space to fit in Jones' salary? Surely someone must be going on LTIR...

With Gagne likely headed to LTIR his cap hit shouldn't be so much of an issue anymore, for the time being at least.

With the news of Gagne being injured I'm assuming that the Flyers now have some cap space to have him back up.

If he gets claimed, Holmgren should be subjected to tar and feathering. Which in and of itself is overdue.

yea he does make big time sense for them on Re-Entry..........he makes 2.7 so half of that is not horrific although he would still be a 7th Damn at this pt

Even if the Rangers don't that is a pretty do able contract

I am for Voros being shipped down or waived himself

No way I see Jones getting past the Rangers. This is exactly who they've been waiting for.

Well they're pretty much near the top aren't they? So, he may not get to the Rangers even. The Devils could conceivably go for him because of Martin's injury.

at 1.4mio$ for 1 year, as a Kings fan I hope we claim him. He can be a decent 6th-7th defensman.

Yeah, but if he gets claimed Holmgren effectively lit a match to 1.375M of capspace.

We do. We would hate it even more if we're stuck with half of his cap hit while he plays for another team.

Wrong....here is what they are doing....and it makes perfect sense.

-The Flyers currently sit at 49 contracts. Gagne on LTIR still counts as a contract. Any player you sign, would be contract #50, thats bad.

-You place Jones on Re-entry in hopes that he gets claimed.

-If Jones gets claimed, its only costing a pro-rated $1.375 million in cap space without trading other players or picks, and your done to contract #48

-You sign a UFA or trade for a player to make it back to contract #49

There are much easier ways to get down to 48 contracts that won't cost you 1.4 in cap space.

How do you sign a player with no cap space?

Then do tell....Flyers aren't trading a talented player for a roster spot.

Plus we are gaining $5 million in cap space from Gagne.

The Flyers have no real trade ammo to begin with. No 1st or 2nd rounders unless Homer wants to dip into the 2011 draft.
