Howard may look like an AHL goalie right now, but they are playing like an AHL team in front of him!
I've seen prospects play in AHL and most of them has better positioning that that.
And it's not like Howard is 18~19 just starting AHL. He played in AHL for 4 years.

Why does Howard always give up a rebound?

Because we have 15 other players that aren't of that calibre. And 2 VERY shoddy goaltenders.

Hell, on the 2nd goal, Zetterberg was the first man back and was the only guy that actually put up a tough check.

And I'm really getting sick of this "running into hot goaltenders" excuse. Luongo had just come off a shutout and we blew him up with 5 goals.

This team is the best at one thing this year: making excuses.

They wouldn't have to clear the rebounds if he didn't keep coughing them up as badly as he does. The entire team just looks awful out there, and thankfully I turned it off after the first goal was scored and they blew both PP chances. At least now I know not to turn the game back on.

Just back home and wtf? 3-0?

Can we really make playoffs this year or what?

What i don't understand is goalie positioning and rebound control is fundamental of goaltending..
that's not something you just improve by playing few more games.
better team D doesn't help him with his positioning or rebound control, it just allows you to have easier shot to defend

We'll make the playoffs, because Osgood is good in the playoffs, remember?

Where is the Z that skated effortlessly with the puck, creating space and time whenever he had the puck?

Now he seems to fight every stride he takes, gets pushed off the puck easily and handles the puck like a land mine from the beaches of Omaha.

Do you guys think the Wings would take a chance on Toskala near the deadline, if he re-ups his game and gets healthy? What other options would there be if Osgood and Howard can't cut it?

Biron? Roloson?

Franzen is more important to this team than I thought, we need a big ass sniper out there

As long as manny fernandez is available, I have to think he'd be option #1

So does Howard get pulled and sat the rest of the game like Ozzie did? Or does Babcock leave him in and let him get 2 or 3 more scored on him?

Probably because he's injured for the millionth time. But it's okay, only another, what, 10 years to run on his deal?

That was a one-timer from the slot, he's hardly at fault for "coughing" up a rebound.
Martin Brodeur would have a tough time controlling that shot.

Does it matter ? Both suck.

This team isn't making the playoffs. Book it.

something is seriously wrong with this team. Edmontons power play looked 10x better than detroits and zetterberg looks like he could use some time in the minors...

I think we need to trade for a goalie MUHC MUCH earlier than trade deadline.

I wasn't just talking about that one, he does it in every game and I'm not the only one who thinks he needs to get it under control.

Rebound control, reaction time and positioning are bad. Lateral movement and control is atrocious. This hurts to watch.

at least our offense can get better (when D, Z, Franzen gets it going)
we seriously have to trade for 3rd line Defensive D to play with Ericsson and a goaltender/goaltenders

If Fernandez can be had for about 1.5 million this season I think we have to seriously consider it. Jimmy Howard's hit is around 800 000 so we can finally just get rid of him (no need in having him if we pick up Fernandez and have Larsson and McCollum in the AHL) and only increase our cap by about 700 000.
