Thoughts on Dave Bolland?

Hello,

Was wondering what all your thoughts on Dave Bolland are? I know he's suppose to play on a line with Hossa when he returns but does Bolland have that much skill to keep up with Hossa and put up a large return in points?

Yes, look at what he did last year with Havlat on his line.

This. He's a very skilled player. He takes dumb ass penalties however.

They are beyond dumb!

I honestly haven't been that impressed with Bolland this year and the penalties dont help!

Bolland is playing with a hurt back.

That said, I think he's a mediocre second line center with a sound defensive game. With the wing depth our club has he certainly has the ability to capitalize on that though.

Bolland has had a somewhat bad start to the year, imo. I don't know how much the bad back is bothering him, but it seems to affect his game somehow. He did have the same back problems last season and it didn't seem to bother him too much. Maybe his game will pick up when he's paired up with Hossa or some other top6 guy.

I agree with this. I see him being if healthy a 65-70 pts guy at max. Solid for a #2 C

I am a Bolland fan but he really isn't anything special. But he is young and could be our #2 C for years.

For someone who is thought of as a heady player, he does turnover the puck quite often. i have been watching him intently since hearing how high Scotty Bowman is on his smarts. I don't see it??

Dave Bolland = Young John Madden with more scoring power.

Good player, Bolland can be effective on both the 2nd and 3rd lines on any club in the league.

That is a fair and seems to be an accurate comparison.

He has good speed, great vision, good defensive skills and although he often takes stupid penalties, he is a very good player. He is still young and I think he can be a solid #2 C for years to come. If there is any question of him playing with Hossa, just ask Havlat how he liked having the quick, gritty Davey Bolland on his line last year.

I see Bolland as more of a young Yanic Perreault

He's a solid 2-way 60-70 point center. He's good on the PK but not much on the PP. As long as he keeps up the good defensive play, tosses in sparingly in the offensive zone, and eliminates those god awful penalties, he's got the 2nd center spot locked down. When Hossa comes back, it's tough to say where Bolland will play. I'd keep together the Buff-Bolland-Kane line and toss Hossa-Toews-Sharp on a line. We'll see what Q does.

I think he is better than Yanic. Not in the circles but certainly overall presence.

I do see some Yanic and some Madden in him. I'm hoping he turns out to be more like Madden. After seeing #11 in a Hawks uni, I'm not liking the thought of him leaving us next year.

Too many shooters on the Hossa line. Put Versteeg instead of Sharpie.

Bollands played in 133 regular season games so far and he isnt 100% healthy.

Several big scorers dont break out until their 400th game. Im not saying Bolland will be among the league leaders or take that long to show his stuff but he did put up serious scoring numbers in jrs. Hes also +29 so far.

what do you guys think about the remainder of bolland's season. can't seem to get rid of this back problem. maybe an option to put him on the IR until he's health with Eager, Toews, and Hossa all coming back soon.

I had a bulging disc. In fact three at one time. Didnt want surgery because thats permanent. Takes a long time for that type of thing to heal and reoccurance is very possible if not given full time to recover. I dont know if thats what Bolland has but I suspect it is. Doesnt look good but youth is on his side.
