No wonder he hasn't scored yet, he has been limited to seven shots in his first 10 games, despite firing 28 goals and over 200 shots on net last season. What's the deal? I been hearing rave reviews about his defensive play, and he's definitely getting good minutes, showing up on the + side and has an assist per game, but dang?! I have the guy in my fantasy keeper league and it baffles me how a shooter has done so little in that department this season. Has Craig Janney taken over his body?
Mods, please edit title to read, "Did Antropov forget how to shoot?" Thanks in advance!
When Anderson was first asked about where he would play, he said "center Kovy's line." That's his position here. And as a Kovy's center, his job is to feed Kovy and whoever's on the RW. With 10 assists in 10 games, I think he's playing center just fine. Sure, he could shoot more, but a big body feeding Kovy and able to get the puck in the zone without dumping it is quite pleasant in my eyes.
I'm sure the goals will come, but personally, I've been happy with his play, and he's made some damn nice passes in a few games (the Peverley back and forth, and the 2nd goal in Buffalo come to mind).
12 assists in 11 games. I know he had good vision, but he's a top notch setup man? Now I don't see this continuing but I guess one can't complain. Oh well, atleast he has 9 shots on goal. Man, I never get Thrashers games, so I don't know how well he's played on a visual level. Stats are the only telling story for me. Man, I need to get the NHL Network!
Antropov has been racking up assists, because his playmaking has been fantastic so far. Most of them have even been beautiful primaries. You can't blame him for opting to pass so often. If it's working, then why change it?
Also, a lot of the Thrashers talent like to create their chances in the high slot. Through his hard work around the crease, Antropov has been able to get them the puck and give them the room to operate. I'd imagine that once teams catch on, Anderson will change the game plan and Antropov will get more scoring chances for himself. I think we are already starting to see it with Kovalchuk out. Antro will get his first goal soon enough.
I've been very impressed with Antropov so far. He plays a responsible game, and doesn't make much noise, but he's racking up assists left and right. He kinda flies under the radar, but he's been consistently on the score sheet damn near every night. He doesn't need to score goals so long as his linemates are.
Yep, Antropov has been a great pickup so far. If he keeps popping an assist a game and doesn't get a goal I'm fine. Not to mention he has been good in front of the net and better defensively. It all helps the team win!
Nice - he's 7th in the league in assists. And he should be: he's surrounded by guys who can play the game. He has a really good shot, and he hardly ever used it in Toronto, either, but he was just the only forward with talent there.
Like a few have been saying in the thread, Antro scores goals on tap-ins and rebounds. He has always been a passer, but his stats don't necessarily show that. However, when you are playing with Kovalchuk, you don't get many rebounds for garbage goals (the guy is shooting at 33.3%)
