I'm surprised and happy about this. The league has been saying all year that they are cracking down on blows to the head. This one was obvious. It shows that they are serious about this and somewhat consistent.

Good decision by the NHL. The fact that no penalty was called speaks about how poor the officiating was in that game.
All hits to the head should be an automatic penalty just like being cut by a high stick.
At least Wiesnowski didn't get away with it and it cost him a mid size SUV.

Cool! I wonder if we will see a change where refs who fail to call penalty will get fined or suspended, especially if its a penalty where the player ends up suspended?

You know what the funny thing is? The Orange County Register seemed to be expecting a suspension.

That thread is hilarious. Thanks for pointing it out. If I didn't already hate Ducks fans, I would now. It is also remarkable that they are comparing this to what happened with Richards.

For those who missed the link:

Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for two games, without pay, for delivering a forearm blow to the head of Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan on Oct. 31, the National Hockey League announced on Monday.

The Ducks lost the game, 3-2 in a shootout at Jobing.com Arena.

The incident occurred at 7:12 of the first period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Wisniewski will forfeit $28,497.40. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Wisniewski will miss games on Tuesday against Pittsburgh on Thursday against Nashville. He will be eligible to return on Saturday against Phoenix.

After all those years of having Pronger they don't know clean from dirty anymore. An elbow or forearm shot to the head is just the status quo.

I found the part about the league protecting its star players from being hurt and suspended as well to be funny.
Did Anaheim fans forget that Chris Pronger is an NHL Star and had his share of suspensions of the years? Did they forget that CP was suspended 2x's in playoffs in the same year the Ducks win the cup?

I don't think the Ducks need a reason to run players.

Maybe the ducks fans are still bitter from the Yankees beating the Angels.

Little does Talentless Practice knows the main reason why he was suspended was to prevent retribution when the two teams meet again this weekend.

Duck fans are terrible. I think it has more to do with their commentators than anything else. Kings fans and Shark fans seem to be good, and Stars fans are always pretty spot on. Perhaps not coincidentally, they all have rather unbiased commentators. The Blue Jackets have some terrible announcers as we all know from the Weller incident and I think that transfers over to the fan base.

Strader is about as vanilla as it gets so we get a pretty even picture of things, more so now that Pang is out of the picture.

If that's Vandermeer on Getzlaf it's still a suspension. The logo on the front has nothing to do with it.

Wow. Just...

Because it's clearly Doan's fault that Wiz hit him in the first place and that the league decided to follow up on it. The sad part is that I wouldn't put it past the actual Ducks team to think like that. I guess Biz and Vandy will have to work overtime that night.

I don't know about that. Ask them what they'd give up for Sean Burke

I don't even need to look through that thread. I already know what's in it. We've gone through it from the Doan/Vishnevsky incident and the Fedoruk/Nedved incident. It's plain just comical.

It's all in how you look at it. I think it is pretty funny myself. Hell, if they could take the hyperbole just a little bit further it would be pure comedy gold.
