Quote:
There will come a time when defenseman P.K. Subban is one of the players who leads the Montreal Canadiens.

That day is a ways off, though, so in training camp Subban was fodder for one of the oldest rookie pranks in the book. His Montreal teammates told him to go first and lead the group onto the ice for a practice in front of a packed crowd. He went out and, of course, everyone else stayed behind. It took Subban a lap around the rink to discover the ruse.

He laughed, naturally, because he appreciates good humor and what else was he going to do? But here's the real punch line: Subban gritted his teeth, came to Hamilton and became part of the backbone of a team that began the AHL season with points in each of its first 10 games.

...

I like the guys the Habs have focused on drafting the past couple of years, they all seem to have good heads on their shoulders unlike some of the nuts before.

I think our HABS should go past the 2nd Round once most of these guys are ready (experienced enough) and confident (obviously I hope we can go past the 2nd Round this season or next! and of course making it is a priority):

Price
PK Subban
Chipchura
Pacioretty
Bennett
LeBlanc
Maxwell
Kristo
Weber
White

Ya, Fischer, Chipchura, McDonagh and Pacioretty all said to have strong leadership qualities and "a good head on their shoulders" yet none of them are good hockey players.

Give me talent over a good head any day.

Getzlaf was said to have attitude problems, so did Kessel as did A LOT of the best players in the last 10 drafts. Talent > leadership. It;s good if they have both, but if they only have one, you go for the talented one and not the leader. That basically means he sucks at hockey but is a good cheerleader.,

Price's head or attitude rather is as close to perfect as one could hope for, its his performance that is lacking.

You're comparing players who played a total of 109 games vs players who played a total of 531 games. They are also completely different players who have completely different roles in their teams. We can't ask Getzlaf or Kessel to play 12-13 minutes on the third line shutting down opposing top lines and we can't ask Chipchura or Pacioretty to play 18-20 minutes and score 30 goals and 80 points.

So, are you saying PK Subban lacks talent?
Or is this just a general rule of thumb that you go by

I hive big hopes and expectations of this kid the way people keep talking about him. Can't wait for him to be a bit more regular in regular season with the Habs.

i can play that game too....
andrei kostitsyn and sergei kostitsyn have a lot of talent but lack "a good head on their shoulders" or leadership abilities so they were really awesome picks right? right?!??!!?
or how bout the myriad of others who fit that description? vlad malikhov (sp?), anton babchuk, nikolai zherdev... etc etc (im aware there have been plenty of north americans as well but those were the first names to come to mind, feel free to add folks from other parts of the world if you so wish).
talent > heart/head/brains yay!
