Overview
Extra Information The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman Doug Janik from their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins.
It appears Janik will replace Brian Rafalski in the lineup tonight against the Boston Bruins. Rafalski (flu) did not skate Tuesday morning. Jonathan Ericsson, who missed the last game because of the flu, also did not skate. Niklas Kronwall, who didn't practice Monday due to the flu, was skating Tuesday morning.
Janik, 29, has a goal, five assists, 15 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating in 10 games with the Griffins. He has three goals, 13 assists and 123 penalty minutes in 161 career NHL games with Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Dallas and Montreal.
Red Wings' spirits high after long road trip
Kris Draper smiled and paused, looking over at fellow forward Pavel Datsyuk as he stretched on the floor of the visitor's locker room in the Saddledome.
"Who?" Draper said loudly in response to a reporter's question, making sure he got Datsyuk's attention. "Pav?"
The Wings were in high spirits as they packed up their gear for the long flight home to Detroit after wrapping up a 2-1-2 road trip with a 3-1 victory Saturday night against the Flames.
Forward Brad May remained behind for observation after an accidental high stick by teammate Jason Williams left May with a swollen right eye and hyphema (blood in the eye). Trainer Piet Van Zant said Sunday morning that May "will be fine but may be out for a bit." He is to be re-evaluated in Detroit today.
Otherwise, the game was a high point for the Wings, thanks to a team-wide defensive effort and Datsyuk picking up his eighth assist of the season when he lifted Curtis Glencross' stick and stole the puck, feeding Tomas Holmstrom for the game-winning goal.
"People just underestimate how strong he is on his stick and what he can do in tight," Draper said. "He's got a lot of confidence right now, and he's doing it all at both ends of the ice for us. When he's playing like that, he's a dominant hockey player, and that's exactly what we need from him."
Datsyuk had fun when asked whether he felt he was skating well after missing two games with an injury. "I am skating awesome," he said. "But I'm not fast; I'm still the same speed."
Datsyuk's stickhandling dazzles his newest linemate, Todd Bertuzzi."You know what? I'm a huge fan of his," Bertuzzi said. "I'm not too sure I'll watch hockey when I'm done, but that's one guy I'd actually pay for a ticket to come watch. I actually really enjoy his composure with the puck and the stuff he pulls off."
The biggest emotional boost for a team that started October 0-2 and didn't win on the road until Tuesday was how they won Saturday: by playing together as five-man units, getting the puck deep and then cycling it. The cohesive team effort led to the Wings having a lead after 40 minutes for the first time in four games.
"We came in after the second period, and there was a real good feeling about the way we were playing," defenseman Brad Stuart said. "Everybody was upbeat, guys were talking about things we were doing well and things we could do better, and it's been awhile since we've had that kind of energy. It was a good sign."

Interesting that they called up Janik over Kindl. That adds to the list of Ericsson, Quincey and Stafford that they've called up over Kindl in recent years.
Is Kindl injured, or are we simply seeing what the Wings brass thinks of Kindl's work in his own zone?

I would also have liked to see Kindl today instead of Janik (just to see his progress)
But i guess the management knows better

ya know, i was going to make the argument that they have a tight schedule this week and thats probably it but they dont even play friday... i dont get it either. maybe janik will play with meech and give us all heart-attacks...

do you want a rookie who is a bit shaky on defense when you already have lebda/meech in the lineup or a 160 NHL games veteran who can at least provide some defense?
kindl would be a good callup if lebda and meech are out and he could play with good NHLers. but at the moment kindl is not the best option.

Isn't Kronwall also questionable due to flu-like symptoms?

Direct TV doesn't carry Versus, huh, never knew that. Anyway tonight should be interesting like a couple previous poster have stated already it would been nice to see Kindl up here just to get a little taste of the big leagues, regardless of the issues hes had regarding his overall play, oh well. The good thing is Boston's really struggled of late to put the puck in the net(3 goals in 3 games?) so hopefully that trend continues along with are relative resurgence of scoring the past couple games.

I see you didn't put up my stream (red-wings-live at Ustream), which is good cause you must keep track of the news on myp2pforum.eu. That or you read the chat room at the Ustream channel.
Yes unfortunately the games will no longer be shown on Ustream, it was bound to happen eventually. So I suggest keeping track of who’s streaming the game on myp2pforum.eu.
I still plan to show this game, however due to security reasons, and big brother, I can’t give out any information since I now need to make feeds more exclusive...sorry about that. There are ways to find it, and you can always read updates I have on the Ustream chat (if I’m around).
Let's Go Wings!

This is bad news for a foreign fan like me. But thank you very much for the information and your past and current efforts!
I have to admit that I like the Bruins quite a lot - which of course will not taint my allegiance though! When the Red Wings lost in Boston last season, I somehow felt even more disappointment. That should be enough for some years, so let's hope for an easy and boring Detroit win!

Will Janik really be on the 2nd pairing? Think it should be a good oppurtunity for him to audition for Lilja's role. We need some size and defensive mindset on the 3rd pairing, I'm sure you will agree.
watching Det/Tor game 7 from '93 on leafs tv, we are up 3-2.....wish i didn't know how this ends. I laughed when the commentator said Chevaldae has been sharp in the first 3:35.

Babcock said he'll use these lines in warmup
Lidstrom - Kronwall
Stuart - Lebda
Meech - Janik

that sounds about right. at least the thin defense is offset somewhat by the absence of Savard, and that Boston has been less than dangerous lately. I thought the line of Wheeler-Sobotka-Paille had some good chemistry, but they were split up when they shuffled all the other lines. looking forward to this one.

Important to get a win out of this one. Boston miss Savard and Lucic, should not be impossible to win against them.

Thomas hasn't been very good either. It should be a close game and with the way things are going I think playing Lidstrom a little more for a few games to get the team into a rhythm is a good thing.

I'm living in the dorms at college and we don't get Versus... I bought Gamecenter but any games on Versus are automatically blacked out on there.

Correction, lol, it shouldn't be impossible to get a win even if, Savard and Lucic were in the lineup to begin with, right?

Janik should be fine on defense tonight. Kindl would've been nice to watch play, maybe he'll get a couple games in at the end of the year.
Little worried that Detroit will lose Janik on waivers when he gets sent down.
