Interesting stats

The leaders in the league for giveaways are:

Roman Hamrlik - 23
Hal Gill - 21
Scott Gomez - 21
Jaroslav Spacek - 21

Denis Grebeshkov - 20
John Tavares - 20
Mike Komisarek - 20
Kyle Quincey - 18
Jason Strudwick - 18
Mark Streit -17
Andy Sutton - 17
Sidney Crosby - 15
Tom Gilbert - 15
Josh Gorges - 15
Niklas Kronwall - 15

Probalby doesn't have much (if anything) to do with our current suckage, but I find it odd that the first 4 are habs. At least we're leading in something.

Oh and Cammalleri is 4th in total shots in the league with 54...

Hamrlik, Spacek, and Gomez all play powerplay, and currently they are focused on going to the point alot. Gomez carries the puck alot himself, but Hammer and Spacek play PP point which creates giveaways.

Gill just sucks.

Someone with time should compare our giveaways on the road cs at home. Even thought we suck on the road, we have way less giveaways. I think the Bell Centre statisticians are giveaway trigger happy. Not saying the players aren't giving the puck away, but I don't think it's as offten as 60 times over 2 games.

New team, new coach and new system.. Those guys get a lot of ice time.. I expect the stats to change a lot as the season progresses.. I'm not worried yet.

Good news is Gill will probably drop out of that race soon enough. Bad news, MAB will probably replace him.

Is Bergeron leading the league in giveaways per game?

Ya Markov and Green.

Giveaways don't really mean much.

Hamrlik is playing quite well and so's Gomez. Spacek and Gill are another story.

Take into account the fact that:

- Montreal has played more games than most teams in the league;

- Spacek has played the most ES minutes in the league this season;

- Hamrlik has played 4th most ES minutes in the league this season & has more total time on ice than either the second or third players in ES minutes.

And you start to realize Hamrlik and Spacek being there is just by virtue of them being on the ice a whole lot.

Gomez carries the puck through the neutral zone a lot, and is expected to be there.

The more you carry the puck, the more giveaways you are prone to have. In Spacek and Hammer case they play alot of minutes with the puck on their stick....and being semi-offensive defenceman they will attempt higher risk plays than a guy like Gill for example.

Gill is up there because of some decent brain farts....and Gomez handles the puck a ton so seeing him up there isn't surprising.

That argument holds little water as Montreal has played more games than most but
the Rangers and Canucks have played 16 and Montreal only 15. Shouldn't the list be lead by Rangers and Canucks then? To follow that logic.

Yup, some stats should be weighted by ES minutes but sadly they are not.
