Nothing new there -- Ruff said he was in the boot today during his press conference after the morning skate as well.

I assume the boot is on just to keep as much weight pressure off the ankle as possible. It can heal a bit faster without having to take all of Thomas' weight every step if he were to walk without it.

I still don't know when to expect him back. But I wouldn't say that the walking boot means he's done.

The more I think about it, the more I'm reminded that it's Thomas Vanek that we're clamoring for to get back in the lineup - a Thomas Vanek that will probably be 75% at that. At no point in his career has he ever been a game changer. At no point has he carried this team on his back. At no point has he showed up in a meaningful game.

Seems like we're clinging to his 4 goal outing in that garbage game up in Ottawa.

Yeah, he was just awful in game one.

Well, I think a lot of what you see is desperation in the fanbase right after a playoff loss (god knows I was pissed off last night, too). It's a 2-1 series and even with that garbage display we put on last night, it was a one goal game.

Vanek would still be a big positive to have back in this game. Even if he's not scoring goals directly, he's a bigger body and he would likely catch some of the defensive focus from Boston, potentially freeing up someone else.

It should also be noted that we did get the puck to the front of the net a decent amount last night - that's Vanek's specialty area. Who knows if he would've been able to bury one.

He was the best Sabre skater in game 1.

I can't believe in the age of cybertronics that we don't have Vanek up and going on that ankle already. For shame.

before his injury last season he carried this team. He score a pretty meaningful goal in game. 1.

Vanek has played fantastic in his brief playoff stint this year. he was aggressive, engaged physically, strong on the puck and was skating great. He scored a big goal in Game #1 and his line was fairly dominating at points.

I will eat crows.. a flock of them, if Vanek plays out this savior role that he's some how gained since going down with the injury.

Savior role?

How about he was playing well and we need him.

Why you're so intent on pissing on his play I'm not quite sure

He adds a boost, no doubt about that. But a Thomas Vanek/Vanish.. who ever shows up, returning at 75%? I'm not so quick to believe he's going to fix the size/coach/effort problem, whichever a bunch of people on a message board decide is to blame.

I'm guessing maintenance day. He didn't look much worse for the wear after he returned from the hit.

completely agree. A team carried solely by vanek and miller is good enough to sit just outside of a playoff spot. But to believe he's gonna come back Friday or Monday and make the problems were having go away - well he's just not that player. I'm not debating that vanek is a bad player, in fact I agree that he's one of our best. But at 75% or 100% the addition of vanek isn't gonna cure cancer like some people around here believe.

I don't think people are looking for him to cure cancer so much as put us over the hump to beat Boston. I think 75% Vanek can still help us get there (and he can inch back towards 100%).

Listened to the WGR update.

Ruff not sure if Ellis can go tomorrow

Vanek is unlikely for tomorrow and if he can't go they will make a call up.

physical or not, it better be Mancari and not Gerbe.

Friends of friends have name-dropped McCormick.

Hopefully Mancari comes too.

They should bring up McCormick or Cowan and tell them to run around looking to tee off.

They'll be in 4th line minutes anyways. Why not try to add a spark rather than another small forward in Gerbe or non factor type player in Mancari.
