Why is this not already a done deal? Obviously we are going to have a team (a ****** one) full of extras once everyone comes back. Even our starting lineup we had Gill/OB sharing the scratch duties....and now we're at the point where MAB and Carle are in our lineup...it's like our D went the way of the stock market.

Not needed anymore, Markov has Gill to mentor him.

Chelios in the playoffs last season was difficult to watch at times, while he used to be able to take a regular shift he is a poor mans Patrice Brisbois now, However Montreal is desperate.

Definetely. He'll show him how to work that stick and good positioning so that he doesn't have to skate 90% of the time.

MAB waived... no problem to cap.... it's only money and the habs have lots.

Chelios.... Signs a one-way contract with the understanding that he's taking a coaching gig when not playing

Short term

Hammer/Spacek
Mara/Gorges
Belle/Chelios

Medium (when OB's back)

Hammer/OB
Mara/Gorges
Spacek/Chelios

Long (Markov/Gill)

Markov/Gorges
Hammer/OB
Spacek/Gill/Mara

No such thing as too much depth on D

MAB ice time should be extremely limited5 on 5 and then the regular shift on the powerplay.

Chelly is so old he forgot he played here at some point...Once someone points that out, he'll realize he can retire because he already realized his dream. He'll die 4 days later.

Is chelios better than MAB? He can end up worse. Either way, even if 3 are injured, we got weber for temp usage and c'mon, 3 injuries even then?

What if we don't have an injury? we gotta send like 2 down. That's great for free agents wanting to sign here. Sign me and send me down.

Last season I said Chelios should think about being a defense coach for the Habs. People laughed at me.. He's won cups, Know everything about being an offensive defense to playing stay-at-home D and like a lot have mentioned has loads of leadership.

Coach > Player

But I don't think JM would appreciate the hiring because he has his own people.

But yes, Chelios has loads to teach O'Byrne, Gorges, Carle, Weber, Belle, Subban, MAB , etc...

Was Chelios actually bad last season or something? People wondering who would be better is confusing me. How on earth could Chris Chelios be worst than MAB, like it just doesn't make sense to me. Age has nothing to do with this. MAB has made last season's OB seem like a norris candidate. that takes talent, or the lack thereof. He has not been good on the PP except 2 games. I've noticed that the PP unit tries to get him set up for the shot but his positioning, lack of confidence ruins it completely, drags everyone out of place and leads to a horrible shot/shot block. If we can't get Chelios, lets check in with Tony Danza. They're good friends and look the same and again, he can't be worse than MAB (wow I think his nickname has already gone down in Habs infamy).

BTW, so far anyone hear Brunet bash MAB at all? cuzzz if that whole petition thing is happening, I don't think you could ask for a better double standard. Forget using Lats, at least he is in the region of NHL player.

Just for entertainment value, I'd love to see T.Fleury and Chelios wear the HABS jersey this year.

Chances of Fleury wearing the CH jersey this season...0,001%.
Chances of Chelios wearing the CH jersey this season...20% to 30%,imo (especially if there are more injuries to our dmen...*knock on wood* against that).

I like that Chelios shoots right. He wouldn't have the same problems as Spacek.

The way Bergeron has played lately, may be a shock to some, but if you've watched him play at all during his whole career, that's why he's never stuck with a team. I don't know why you guys would expect different, he was brought in to patch a hole and help an anemic PP
we all know mab was brought in for the pp. The problem is that when you're becoming a liability in the position of your strength, then yeah, you are going become frustrated with him despite the low expectations.

A cheap two way contract and he can retire a Hab? Like it.
Should never have traded him.

MAB is a high risk player...both defensively AND offensively. The play where he screwed on the PP is not a once-in-awhile type of deal. Even as a Hab the first few games he got away with high risk plays...this one caught up to him

I've been saying for 3 years that the Habs should re-acquire Chelly to fill the role that Breezer had.

I wanted before we were thinking about signing bergeron. I've wanted him so bad hopefully he still has something left in the tank and could surprise like schneider did last year

Hopefully we can sign him and hope he doesn't get injured

I'd love to see him here on some level, his knowledge could help the defense even behind the bench.

Play the young Ds instead -- let them acquire experience. It's not like Chelios will significantly improve this .500 team.
