Best thing that could happen for him was that Brent Quitter left town. What a blessing.

what are their ATOI's at? also I would guess Gionta probably plays and will play all year on their first power play unit.

Bergfors' ATOI is 15:28

Gionta's is 20:53, tops among Montreal forwards

Bergfors was taken during the draft in League 2, so I never had a chance to get him. I picked up Andy Greene before last night's game, and wouldn't you know, his point streak ends.

this is a very disturbing sign. Promise to release him if he goes scoreless for the next 2 games?

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I didn't expect Bergfors to match or exceed Gionta's production, but from a cost standpoint, I figured that Bergfors would be a much better value. But the fact that he has a chance to exceed his production makes the decision even better.

Lemaire says the Devils "need" Bergfors:

Bergfors played most of his shifts in Saturday’s 5-3 loss in Dallas on the line with Parise and Zajac, but Lemaire said he didn’t see enough of him there to decide if that was going to help his game.

“Not enough, but I hope that Bergie is going to come back where he was because we need him,” Lemaire said. “We need him, especially in these tough time that we have.”

The Devils are shorthanded up front because of a rash of injuries. They finally got some scoring Saturday from a players other than Parise and Zajac with the line of Brian Rolston, Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner having a good night offensively. If Bergfors can start scoring again—he’s still fifth among NHL rookies with 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 21 games—that would give the team the scoring balance they’ve lacked all season.

I think GIC was right. Bergie hasn't been the same since the game in Pittsburgh, and Lemaire has been praising him the past couple of days even though he's been invisible. I think he realized he ****ed up and know he's trying to clean up his mess.

Easy thing to do put him back with Parise and Zajac and leave him there.

Maybe, but I don't think Lemaire is likely to retire the bingo ball cage any time soon.

I don't think so. Bergfors has no one to blame but himself for his recent slide. Here's Bergfors' stats from the last 5 games:

11/12 vs. PIT - 1 G, 2 A, 6 SOG, 24 shifts, 16:49 TOI
11/14 vs. WSH - 2 A, 0 SOG, 21 shifts, 16:24 TOI
11/16 @ PHI - 0 SOG, 24 shifts, 16:33 TOI
11/19 @ NSH - 0 SOG, 22 shifts, 16:28 TOI
11/22 @ DAL - 2 SOG, 21 shifts*, 11:32 TOI

*I don't know why NHL.com has 21 shifts listed for 11:32 unless Bergfors took incredibly short shifts. Per Gulitti, Bergfors was out with a broken skate during the game; hence, his limited ice time.

Still, Bergfors has recently got at least 16 minutes and 21 shifts per game outside of the Dallas game. Yet, he has 2 assists, no points in his last 3 games, and 2 shots from that one Dallas game to show for it.

For a scoring winger, he needs to at least shoot the puck.

Stats don't explain anything in this particular situation. Ever since Lemaire chewed him out he's been invisible. He hasn't looked confident out there, and as we saw earlier in the season, that has a big impact on his performance.

In the last few games Bergfors has gotten away from the thing that he was having success with. he has not shot the puck, and he has shown little confidence in the offensive zone. In the dallas game he did get a few shots and he made some good passes. If he does more of the same thing in tonights game he will be all right.
