I don't know if that would be a good deal if it was ever to happen because of Whitney's age. 37 but a UFA. they would save around 500K towards the cap. With both brothers going unless Whitney was packaged with someone else.
I like Whitney's play and production don't know if it is the best deal for the habs considering that Andrei is 23 and has 2 years left on his contract and is and RFA.
Gainey might just be doing the deal because Andrei is struggling and it is his opportunity to send Sergei somewheres else as well.
Kostitsyn BROTHER. Andrei has value...Sergei does not, no matter what a dedicated proposal thread may suggest.
Someone would take a flier on Sergei. His value is minimal though. Andrei is most of the value and he alone is still way too much to give up for a 37 year old rental player anyway.
I won't rule it out since it's Gainey. Even though Eklund is full of it usually. I don't get a lot of the moves Gainey makes. Maybe this will be another strange one.

Haha, you talk in absolutes as if you have the slightest idea of how much the 30 GMs value individual players. Don't put people down for making random assumptions when you've just done the same.
Am I the only one who loves Ray Whitney as a player? Would I ever like to see him and Alfredsson on the same line.
I, for one, thinks this would make Montreal a lot better - so I'm glad it's coming from Eklund and likely won't happen.
Yep.
I think Whitney's better than Andrei K. right now and he'd make Montreal better right now too, but how long will that last? He's 37. He can make them better for about a year or two. Andrei will still be a good NHL player 10 years from now. It's just not worth it long term.

Yeah, this trade would make sense if the Habs were cup contenders this year but considering the likelihood of a 9th place or 1st round exit, this trade makes no sense on the Habs part.

Love Whitney as a player. He'd be an upgrade on the left wing of a lot of teams, including the Habs.
But frankly this is a contender move. Maybe Gainey feels that they are one or two pieces away from being contenders this year, but I doubt it. Therefore I just can't see this happening from a Montreal perspective.
Although I wouldn't mind Bob having a temporary bout of insanity involving a deal like this.
Whitney is a good player, but not a good fit and as a ufa would only appeal to a contender. Habs only interest in a trade for a top 6 forward should be one with size and grit to compliment the munchkins. Clowe would be great.
I would say the best deal for the Kostitsyn and Montreal would be this;
To Carolina: S.K and A. K
to Montreal: Ray Whitney + 2nd 2010 + Drayson Bowman
No the best deal for the Habs would be:
Kost. Bros for Staal, Ward, Pitkanen, 1st in 2010 - Infinity
That proposal is ridiculous. If we're trading Whitney, it's intended to be as a rental player. So why would we trade a pick and our top sniper prospect? The Kost. bros for Whitney value is decent for both sides IF the Habs were a cup contending team. Considering they are not, the proposal is flawed, so no matter how much you add onto the original proposal, one side won't be happy.
