Ray Whitney

With the horrible start for the Hurricanes, there have been rumors that they are shopping many of their parts. So my question is, would anybody here be against trading Huselius for Whitney straight up?

I think Whitney would fit right in with this team and could help our PP out.

Whitney's contract is up at the end of the season, so we lose Juice's salary, and Whitney's comes off the books at the end of the year. Freeing up money, and giving Voracek and Filatov a chance to take the other wing spot on the 1st line next year.

Just want to see how my fellow Jackets fans feel about this.

Flame away.

Sure, I'd do it. Why would Carolina?

And there's the problem.

I was thinking about this the other day. Ray Whitney was one of my all-time favorite Blue Jackets. I love the guy and I think he's more valuable than most people give him credit. If we could get him to sign for another year after this one at a reasonable price I would probably do it. Juice is a good player but not as consistent as The Wizard. Two BJ Captains on one team might form a singularity in the space time continuum however.

I still have a couple Ray Whitney hologram cups in my kitchen. it would be nice if they were relevant again.

I'm for it.

Getting a top 6 winger back for Whitney should be enough for Carolina. Juice fits their system better than ours and could find life playing next to Staal.

I'll fourth the good Capn's suggestion. One way to find out - take it to the Canes board. And be prepared to start thinking of what prospect(s) you'd be willing to part with in addition.

i dont' think they'd do it for Juice...I'd like to see him dumped to a team for a 3rd or 4th and be done with it...then we could package some of our def prospects like ruth or cody and picks for someone to add a scoring punch to us....on topic, I'd love to see Ray back with us...

Sorry man, Canes wouldn't touch that with any kind of pole. 20 foot or 20 mile.

The price I'm expecting for Whitney being moved is for either a high end prospect, a YOUNG roster player, a first round pick or some combination thereof.

edit: not saying he's crap, but Huselius is prettymuch the exact opposite direction the Canes want to be going in right now. We're already the oldest team in hockey (yes, older then the Wings before Boychuk and Sutter were called up), adding a 30 year old does nothing to help even if we are moving out a 37 year old.

I don't think we should necessarily give up on Juice, but he has certainly been in some kind of funk for quite some time (though he did have a two goal game not too long ago...).

Doubt you'll be getting that with his contract being up at the end of the year. If he had a low cap hit and signed for a couple of years, yes, but he's a half year rental at this point and doubt anyone would be willing to give that up

I'd throw in a first to get rid of Juice's contract. And Whitney is my all-time favorite Jacket.

Young roster player is the route I think it's going to go. If Russell hadn't been extended I would say he would be a prime candidate but that's obviously now out of the question. Jackets and Canes probably aren't the best trade partners as far as Whitney goes. Any first would likely be too high to justify it (ie: anything before 25) from a Jackets perspective. Prospect wise the Jackets seem far more like the kind of team that's going to simply let them develop anymore rather then toss a kid in as trade bait. From a Canes perspective any pick outside the top 40 is too low to justify trading Whitney.

Whitney is my favorite non-jacket player and he would be magic next to Nash. God what I would do to have him back..

Whitney is easily my all time favorite Jackets player and lets not forget he was our captain! Anyone remember that?

I love it

I threw this out there in a thread about a possible Canes firesale yesterday and nobody responded.

Despite being a Juice fan, I might be up for it if possible...when he comes off IR.

Is this "We need to trade for a top six winger, because _____." or "I want my favorite player back."?

Would we want to bring him in simply as a rental?

We need to trade for Whitney because he would be a very great mentor for Jake and he would instantly give us a huge boost to our 5 on 5 play and he can quarterback a power-play very effectively, and I want back my all-time co-favorite Jacket.

I don't think he would be a rental as I am pretty sure he'd resign here for another 1 or 2 years. He is a big upgrade over Juice and I'd love to get him even if we had to give up a 1st and Mayarov (who at the most would only be a third line guy for us in the future anyway).

Why would we trade forward for forward? You want to trade Juice, trade him for something we need.

Whitney can also serve as a PP QB which we need. That's why. And plus, he's our favorite ex Jacket!

Just imagine if we would have gotten Brad Richards a couple years ago. Dude is money on the point. Nash and Richards on a line *droooool*
