Funny to think that quite a few of us were calling for his head earlier in the season.

I'll come out and admit I was a part of the group. Of course, my firing was contingent on the Preds not making the playoffs. So, I guess I am exonerated, but I still don't like a lot of the personnel moves from Trotz. I think he let some players poor performances slide while completely banishing others. But let's just say I'll back off the 'fire Trotz' and just change my statements to 'dadgummit Trotz'.

The thing is we don't see everything Trotz sees. We don't know what happened in practices or the locker room, etc. All we see is what happens in a game which may or may not please Trotz as well but he has more to factor in.

Anyhow, congrats Trotzie!!

Honestly, our roster on paper this year was not good. All major publications predicted us to finish in the bottom of the league. I think we were all very skeptical at the thought of us making the playoffs.

Trotz deserves a lot of credit. We don't have anything bonafide first line players (the addition of Sullivan might barely classify as one).

Our defense just plain scared me at the start of the year. We only had two guys that had played more than 5 NHL games on our opening night roster. While our defense certainly wasn't stellar, we got by and Trotz deserves some credit.

I was one of the Preds fans who felt that this years defense was a wildcard. I felt that this was our most talented D core by far, but it lacked any experience at all. With the experience factor slowly taking care of itself, I think we have the foundations of a solid defense. It played about how it was really supposed to play. Solid at times and shaky at times. You can't put players like Hamhuis out in key situations without having a few bumps in the road.

Edit: In fairness, we did all laugh at the major publications predictions. Most give a cursory glances to last years standings, acquisitions and releases, hype and then make a prediction. It's why the Rag$ always get picked to be really good.

Good for Trotz

Yep - I certainly was among those who bashed Trotz, I still think it was certainly warranted though. The strict system and the players who don't necessarily flourish in the system .. it's enough to get a little miffed about.

But Trotz knows more then I, he knows more about his players and knows and understands what situations they strive in and what situations they can handle. The defense on paper was more then shoddy going into the season and Trotz molded a playoff team nonetheless - what more can be said.

Nice job Trotz.

(I still want to see an offensive centerman though)

You really think the Flames will sweep ?? I don't know about that. I'll say Flames in 6 or 7. I will enjoy the golf course after this round because I'll still have enough time to get home to watch the Flames/Sharks WCF.

I really hope the flames beat the wings, and if Hatcher, Maltby, Draper, and Holmstrom happen to get run over multiple times in the process, all that much better

That's the spirit guys !! We've only played one game and I already hate Hatcher, Maltby, Draper, McCarty, Holmstrom, Chelios & Zetterberg (diver).

How did you guys stand watching your series vs. Detroit ?? The Wings must play the most boring style of hockey ever. Every game vs. Vancouver was 10 times better than the game last night. The Wings get away with a lot of obstruction as well. Must be the respect factor because they water-ski and clutch/grab like nothing I have ever seen before.... okay perhaps the Wild.

They tried to skate with the Predators the first few games, then figured out they couldn't and dropped back into this trap boring hockey crap the last two games.

It is really ironic how much people that didn't watch the Preds this year dragged out that 'clutch and grab' mantra. Shows how much attention they pay. The way the Wings won the series was by trapping and clutching and grabbing. That is how a slower defensive team contends with speed and forechecking. The Wings have become what their fans say they hate!
