So I assume these are the conclusions?

1. Forsberg did not sign a contract with Modo that extended into the NHL season, so that way he kept his options open and can sign with any team without waivers.

2. Jagr is under contract with the KHL, so if he wanted to come to the NHL, then he would have to clear waivers first, so he couldnt just sign with the Oilers.

3. Waivers is waivers, and the people saying he has to clear some sort of special waivers are incorrect.

4. If Jagr wanted to, he could tell all the teams below the Oilers that he will not report, and that may dissuade them from claiming him, as that team would likely have to waive a player or make cap room for Jagr.

The few things I'm not sure of are:

1. If the Oilers wanted to, could they try to persuade Jagr's KHL team to loan him (ie, bribe them) to the Oilers? Can money change hands for a team loan?

2. I thought the KHL opted out of the agreement with the NHL. But then again, if there is no NHL and KHL agreement, that doesnt change the fact that the NHL has their own waiver rule. The agreement is just regarding the player coming to the NHL, and doesnt have anything to do with the NHL's internal waiver rule. So I think I answered my own question.

3. Why would I continue typing out the question after I answered it for myself?

I think Jagr is an Oiler next year.

Reasons: Renney, Fleming, Hemsky

we should pick up nylander for 2.4 and drop fernandoooo pisani. we could have a duo of nylander-jagr next year and with the imput of eberle and paajarvi our team on paper would be sick.....

wait thats probably not gonna happen, but i can dream can't i?

What if he retires from the KHL?

Would he then have to clear waivers?

Another hypothetical:

Say the Oilers bomb out in the next month and by the end of it we are sitting in 30th, if the Oilers sign Jagr does he have to pass through waivers anyways since we are already the worst team in the NHL and have first dibs on waiver players?

why bomb just to get jagr? why not just bomb and stay there for a top 5'r and then sign jagr in the offseason?

I would love to get rid of O'Sullivan, Nilsson, Cogliano, Grebeshkov, Gagner and let Comrie, Pisani and Strudwick walk as free agents. That's roughly 11 million coming off the books.

Trades: Cogliano, O'Sullivan, 2nd round pick for Nathan Horton

Sign Jagr and Nylander for a combined 8 Million. Jagr(5.6), Nylander (2.4)

It doesn't matter what position in the standings the team is in when they waive a player... he still has to clear.

I can side with you on everyone of those players EXCEPT GAGNER!!!

Why do you want keep reddox/brule/horcoff over him? You also don't have him included in a proposal or anything. Are you saying we should just maybe not resign him as an RFA? or trade him somehow?

Give your head a shake man! Keep Gagner and let all the others walk. Gagner is still 19. What were you doing at 19? He was having 40 point seasons.

He would have to clear for a team to just sign him, but if he goes through waivers, the worst team always has first dibs.

He doesn't need to clear waivers to be signed, he needs waivers to be able to join the roster.

So we would sign him to the contract, and then he would have to go through every team before we could claim him. The same thing happened with the Islanders last year. They signed Wade Dubielewicz but since he'd played in the KHL, he needed to clear waivers, and the Blue Jackets (who were ahead of the Islanders in standings) claimed him.

If Jagr says " I want to play in the NHL", who gets first dibs?

What happened with Dubielewicz makes it sound like the Islanders were penalized for signing him before he went through waivers.

If Jagr says "I want to play in the NHL" than whichever team he wants/wants him signs him. After which, in order to have him play on their roster, they need to put him on waivers. Every team in the league gets a chance to put in a claim before the team which signed him can have him. Regardless of standings.

Ah, so he cant just declare himself eligible for the NHL? He actually has to be brought back to the NHL by a team, and then he goes on waivers?

"Jags and I text back and forth. I talked to him about six weeks ago," Renney said. "He's on our radar. He has NHL years ahead of him. No question."
What I get from this^^^:

Jagr and Renney have each other in their top five. Jagr has the ability to play in the NHL.

So then why wasn't he an Oiler this year?

edit: Oh I see because we didn't get Flemming until late in the off-season.
