I'd to the UFA's if needed.

Leafs Update:

Kaberle has gotten a few decent starting offers, but nothing that's blown me away. Maybe his trade value is still too low...

Some of the UFA forwards are getting buzz. 1 or 2 of them may move quickly when Trading opens..

Blue Jackets Update: Lookingfor a top pairing D-Man and have made some inquiries. A few deals on the back burner until a few more GM's respond.

Modin can be packaged with a mid-level prospect to dump.

Pens looking to get a big-time winger prospect.

Kunitz, Guerin, Dupuis, and Bourque are all available.

People may have realized that a trade involving Lidstrom will be vetoed.

bingo. If Detroit moves Lidstrom, Datsyuk, or Zetterberg, they lose the loyalty that has been such a crucial part of the organization. There is just no way it will happen. Lidstrom in particular will never don a jersey without a winged weal or three blue crowns.

Pens getting to work early, signing 2 D-men

No need to wait for the teams to be filled to start announcing contract extensions, since it doesn't affect the new GM's anyways...

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed soon-to-be RFA Kris Letang to a 4-year deal worth $2,750,000 per year. Letang has the potential to put it together, we'll see if he can do it.

Also, the Penguins welcome back Sergei Gonchar for 4 more years. We look forward to seeing Sarge retire a Penguin, and we feel that this is a good deal for both sides, considering dollars, term, Gonchar's recent injury history and the 35+ clause.

I don't think many would mind keeping their long-time captain and arguably best player at their position in the world

What do you mean in regards to the 35+ clause?

If he retires or has a career ending injury his cap hit still counts against the team.

Or if he gets so crappy that I have to send him down to the minors.

I'm assuming he means that if Gonchar were to retire before his contract ran out his number would still count against the cap.

haha alright i knew that. I mistakenly read that he was born in '75. So I just wanted to check if you thought that he wasn't subject to it since he is 34. But nevermind he's 35 anyway.
