Does Lavi go off our payroll books because he's coaching elsewhere?

He of 1,000,000 lives is finally gone. How many changes to the coaching staff have been made since he started here? He was one of Mo's guys during the 2001-02 season IIRC.

I knew that we would never fire him (I can only assume that he had some dirt on JR or Karmanos), but it never crossed my mind that someone would actually hire him and he would leave voluntarily. Awesome.

That is a very good question over the last year or so.

Formerly powerplay/offensive I believe. He's been in the box since last year.

i thought Kevin handled the Dmen prior to Roe coming up?

He actually was a member of the Flyer organization previously

Oh my freaking goodness! This is absolutely amazing... I have no idea what Kevin has been doing this year, but in the past I have really wanted to pound on that boy... This is much better that I would have ever hoped! Oh, good luck in Philly KM!

You may be right, I can't remember. But I thought we often blamed him for much of the PP failures a few years ago. Then again I may be remembering, um, geez what was the other asst under Maurice? Losing it.

based on how things have been going, with any other organization i wouldve assumed mo's firing press conference wouldve accompanied this. my vote is for kevin dineen. knowing jr he meant it when he said mo was safe from this disaster.

Randy Ladouceur is who I was thinking of, but I thought he coached defense and went with Mo to TO. Or maybe I'm remembering he was a d-man as player. I get confused...

Daniels, Albany's head coach now, and certainly another guy who shouldn't be a coach at the first place.

Nah, I believe I was thinking of Ladouceur and not Daniels, I remember JD pretty well. Of course Randy has been gone for 6 years now, so I may be in a timewarp. .

I still think Kevin was working with the PP before Francis and Rowe, unless I am just completely confused now.

Quick search turned up that McCarthy was a former Canucks captain. Guess he won't see his old team tomorrow after all.

I am so happy about this. Flyers are my 2nd team and when the cousins were asking me about Lavi a few weeks ago, I was hoping he would end up there. Now one of my teams is going to turn it around and be FUN to watch.

I'm so sorry for you having to have the Flyers be your other team...

Seriously tho, as much as I dislike the Flyers, I wish Lavi the very best. I'm not sure we win the cup without him, hence he'll always be a great guy to me...

I definitely don't think we win it w/o him. The scheme he crafted coming out of the lockout was a stroke of genius. I'm sure he didn't do it on his own, but a lot of it has to go to him.

No, that's alright.

I understand that he's old but, damn, he went from a PPG defensive monster to total **** in like 15 minutes...

Actually, a return engagement back to the Flyers might not be a terrible idea.

If he is in fact retiring after this year, wonder if we might see him dealt as a rental (a la Francis in 2003 or 04, can't remember) to try and win one more Cup? I know he has another year, but there may be ways around someone having to take that on. There are still some things a team would gain from a guy who captained a Cup winner and still have some marketable components to his game (FO's).

If he is retiring after the year then nobody, and I mean absolutely NOBODY, other then maybe Phoenix, would be willing to acquire him. Whoever gets him is 100% on the hook for the last year of that contract in terms of the cap whether he plays or retires. The only way out is if he is "loaned" to a European team, which isn't going to happen.

I know. We'd have to agree to re-acquire him after the season and let him then retire here. I don't think he will play that last year, the contract could be voided by mutual assent (and he is then offered something upstairs, maybe taking McCarthy's place, whatever that was). Could be wrong, but just can't see him trying to play next year with the abilities so diminished. Maybe I'm dreaming...

I assume the cap hit would be resolved if they agreed to void the contract by mutual assent after the season. That would be unusual, but the ability to play for another Cup before he finishes might be powerful incentive. JR and Rod may have to get very creative to make it work, but it seems like it could.
