Hey mistakes happen but come on. He's also the same guy who reported Staal was playing the point on the PP in practice, two full games after he'd already been there in live action.
I'm pretty sure it was his left leg. I initially thought right, but looking at the replay it appears it was his left, and he skated off putting all of his weight on hi right leg.

to think they don't would be wrong.
as a member of the news media in the northeast, i'm always checking up to see what the local bloggers are up to.
sometimes, you can find some interesting tidbits.
other times, they make you laugh.
but either way, for better or worse, it's become a major source of info in today's world.
btw, cam hope you're feeling better soon.

Yes, it was indeed, and I was wrong. You couldn't hear the sound where I watched it but it was the back part of the skate cutting his left thigh not the front part cutting his right. I guess old Chipper was right after all so my bad.

-- G Cam Ward was discharged from Riverside Methodist Hospital this morning and is back in Raleigh, N.C. The best guess is that he'll miss a month of action recuperating from the lacerated thigh he suffered in Saturday's game vs. Columbus.

This seems like the right place to put this...

Quote:
Nash had no idea

Right winger Rick Nash said he didn't feel his right skate clip the left thigh of Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward during the first period of Saturday's 3-2 win.

"When he was there on the ice right after it happened, I thought he hurt his knee or his groin or something," Nash said. "It's really scary. Skates are sharp. I didn't even know it happened."

Ward needed surgery late Saturday to repair a lacerated muscle in his thigh. He returned to Raleigh, N.C., yesterday.

Ward is one of the few goaltenders in the NHL who doesn't wear a protective pad covering the knee and lower thigh, just above the large, visible pads.

Both Blue Jackets goaltenders, Steve Mason and Mathieu Garon, wear the padding.

"I've had the pleasure of meeting Cam, and he's a world-class guy," Mason said. "This is scary stuff, and it's tough for him and a big loss for the Hurricanes.

"He chooses not to wear that extra pad. I'm not sure why, but it's cost him twice now."

Ward suffered a cut to a knee during a March 11, 2007, game against the New York Rangers.

well if it IS true, good, get him back, make manny the backup, and relegate leighton to the A or trade him for a late pick or prospect.

Oh I agree, I'm just not nearly that optimistic with the condition he was in coming off the ice.

And Leighton has trade value?

Seriously that's probably the best idea though. Leighton and Peters in the A, Murphy as the #1 in the ECHL.

yeah pretty much, and i guess that's probably what was already going to happen anyways. just not as fast as they are saying now.....and yeah, i dont like that. i want him to recover fully. its not like the Legace/Leighton tandom can make us WORSE, so why not let Wardo sit out as long as he needs to get back to 100%?

oh an interesting thing....I have been playing Wardo as my goalie for most games so far this season on my Wii NHL 2K10. His GAA is around 5 or 6 lol. But now I have played 2 games with Legace and his GAA on the game is 2. Hmm......

They better not rush him back or anything. It's not like we need his help tanking.

Never gonna happen. Leighton has a one way, Legace a two way. Now Legace and Peters in the A and Murph in ECHL... that could be a realistic possibility.

No idea, I know he's set to come off the IR but I haven't heard anything either way on him coming back to practice.

From the N&O today,

Quote:
One encouraging sign is the increasing amount of time Cam Ward has spent practicing over the last two days — even with yesterday's off day.

The Hurricanes have pretty much ruled out bringing him back for Saturday's home game against the Vancouver Canucks (as was originally hoped), but he'll likely travel with the team on an ensuing four-game road trip next week and may see action in Wednesday's game at the New Jersey Devils.

"He is so day-to-day at this point," Maurice said. "He's going to take an awful lot of shots soon and then we'll see how he comes back the next day and see how sore he is."

Of course, when he does come back, the Hurricanes will have a decision to make regarding their two backups, Michael Leighton, who is in the second year of a two-year, one-way contract, and Manny Legace, whom the Hurricanes signed as a free agent after Ward went down.

Take as long as you need, Cameron. I know you have a National team to make, but don't ruin the bad thing we have going here for a while yet. We need some buffer room in the standings from the Leafs before that starts.

When I read this the first time, I thought Maurice was saying that he'd see an awful lot of shots when he returns to the lineup.

I agree with Vagrant. There is absolutely no reason to rush him back. Make sure he is 100%.
