Weird Scheduling...

Dunno if you've all looked at the schedule, but after tonights game, we've only got 1 game in the next 11 days! Then following that break, we've got 4 games in 6 days...

What's with this? I seem to recall we had a similar run last year and then had to fit an extra couple of games into the run-in that may well have cost us.

I can understand us going 2 or 3 nights without a game, but this seems a little unnecessary?

flyers aren't the only team like this. it brought up controversy because why have a stupid schedule like this when the olympic break is this year?

Without looking at the schedules for each team's home arena I'm going to guess that a lot of this is due to availability...though it would seem they could have gotten the Flyers a game or 2 more in this stretch.

Yeah, if there's any time our guys need a break, it won't be 5 games into the season.

They always build in some breaks at the beginning of the schedule. I haven't bothered to read into it, but I assume it's to allow some more practice time so teams can play in some games and then have a chance to fix stuff.

It is moronic in an Olympic year, however, because it leads to the schedule having little time off throughout the rest of the year.

Fine with me. Less games where the Flyers are competing with baseball. The other night if you didn't get down there an hour early, you were an hour late (luckily I was an hour early).

the nhl scheduling is awful. there should be more divisional games and less games like the ones today. at least it comes at a somewhat opportune time with jvr recovering from the head injury. if nothing else it will allow him to recuperate without missing that many games. as far as scheduling goes around the nhl in general, anyone agree about the more divisional games? i know some people like playing a wider variety of teams and such, but i like the more divisional games route. provides better rivalries, i think.

NO WAY on more division games. There's enough. I have season tickets, I want to see more teams. Rivalries aren't made in the regular season, they're made in the playoffs.

This is what I don't get about Fantasy leagues as well. Since I picked a lot of flyers, next week I'm basically ****ed?

You don't remember two years ago? You really want to play the same teams 8 times a year? It's ridiculously boring.

i would. i guess i am in the minority, i really thought that other people would be with me on this. you'd really rather see teams like colorado come in to the wachovia center instead of seeing the rangers or pens two more times? as it stands now we don't face the rangers until december 19 and we don't face the pens again until a little before that. i would much rather see another flyers-pens game than flyers anaheim, la, etc.

I like playing the Penguins and Devils only 6 times compared to 8, because that's four more games we might actually win.

8 times wasn't the problem, I actually liked that a lot. The problem was that they didn't organize the schedule. If you have that many games against the same opponent, you need to exert some control over the schedule so you don't end up playing the same team 3x in 5 games...which wouldn't have been that hard if the NHL wasn't run by idiots.

NHL scheduling has, is, and will continue to be a joke for quite a while, I'm betting.

That's December, the ice show is on after Christmas. Most schedules have a break this time of year (this is extreme), and, as said above, I'm pretty sure it's by design to allow teams a chance to practice and work out kinks after playing some games.
