It's too early to say this. We don't really know yet who will be available at the deadline. We can speculate based on which teams are doing well or poorly, and who is a UFA at the end of the season, but we don't know for sure. Players we might not have expected could become available, and if the price is right, Lou should go for it.
Well if he can make a Salvador-like deal I won't complain, but I have no faith that anyone we can acquire mid-season will put us over the top, except as I said a glimmer of hope for Niedermayer.
Way to early to think about a trade. The only teams that might even think about a trade are the teams that are just horrible. (i.e Toronto or Carolina)
I dont see Lou pulling this trade everyone wants and has wanted for 3 years now. We need to get it out of our heads. Lou is a homegrown kinda guy he isnt going to make a trade for a #1 for a half a year to then let the guy walk. Lou will let our D play out see who steps up make a minor move and keep plugging away.
As for the playoffs u cant totally blame the D some fault has to fall on Marty also, I love Marty and will defend him to no end but he has not exactly played well the last few years in the playoffs.
Nieds is a pipe dream i dont think just because Rob is here he is going to come her in a trade. Someone said it earlier if someone offers more he will get traded there. We dont have alot to give up right now unless we trade a roster player or 1 or our 2 top guys and thats what it will take for a #1 guy.
So please get it out of ur heads no #1 guy is getting traded to NJ.
defense isn't the problem. Get a good 2nd line center who can score for elias. move zubrus to the third line and our offense is set.
I disagree. Zubrus is playing well as our second line centre. Unless he goes completely cold, I am fine with leaving him there. Once all our players are healthy, we have enough offence. It's our defence that is the problem. They are playing well right now, but I don't know how long they can keep this up.

Sorry just saying!
So what you're really saying is that we're out in the 1st round again. I would have to agree.
And I blame our defense first, our offense 2nd for not scoring those important, timely goals needed come playoff time and goaltending last.
We need one more center. You guys honestly expect rob nedieymer to hold up and center our 3rd line. most of you felt he would be awful as the 4th line center. Also most of you expected elias to play center, and he might play LW.

The way Lemaire scrambles lines, he'll probably play both.
I'm comfortable with our top-9. I think our bottom line could use some work as none of the players there feel like they belong to me, but that's not that big of an issue.

No i dont believe that. These guys have been together for 3 years now. They have to take the next step. Paul needs to take that next step to be a true #1 Dman. And i believe they can.
What i am saying is Lou will not make the move. He made his moves to shake up the team and it was NHL talent for NHL talent. Right now he is young and doesnt wanna do that.
Carlo Colaiacovo is very underrated imo, Lou seems to have a good relationship with STL
What? The Shanahan and Stevens fiasco suddenly doesn't count? Not to mention we straight up robbed them of Salvador. I would be surprised if St Louis wants to deal with us. I agree that Colaiacovo would be a good addition though. Maybe we can forge some documents saying that Peters is from St Louis?

I agree. I can't name a single team whose playoff fortunes have been made or broken by the strength of their fourth line. The top 9 you listed is very competitive, we should have enough scoring. And come playoff time neither Peters nor PL3 will be playing. Pandolfo-Pelley-Pikkarainen is a capable enough fourth line.
For all of you clamouring to have Nieds back, consider this ... every time in the past that Lou tried to bring back a former [significant?] piece of a Devils championship team, it didn't work out as well as most of us expected.
See:
Malakhov, V.
Mogilny, A.
Rolston, B.
(you could probably add assmuffin to that list too ... though I wouldn't exactly call him intergral to anything on the team).
The only player I can think of from a Championship team that was brought back and played well enough was Rupp.
Now Nieds may be an exception. But then again, he might not play for us like the Scott of old.

Yeah, and most of us thought Clarkson was going to be a 7 goal a year, 10 minute a night energy guy.
Point is that Robby Neids has been outstanding so far for us this year.
Lou always makes that depth trade at season's end so I doubt our 4th line going into the playoffs, heck maybe even our 3rd, will be the same as it is today.
Our biggest need is a higher caliber dman. We have what appears to be a bunch of solid guys but they have not been playing up to the same level in post season that they are in the regular season. I'm going to upset the Mike Mottau fan club but the fact of the matter is while he plays solid and well all regular season, he has been very underwhelming in the post season the past 2 years. I really feel like as long as he in is our top 4 and playing against other team's top lines, we aren't going anywhere in the playoffs. I'm singling him out but all of our D have seemed to tighten up in the post season and not play as sharp the past 2 years. I think we need someone of not just higher caliber but to bring in a different attitude in the post season to our D corps. For nostalgic reasons I would love it to be Scott but I really don't care who it is, but if it doesn't happen I will have my doubts about our playoff success.
And man I hope you are right about Urbom. Lemaire sure seemed to like him that's for sure.
