With our captain being on pace for over a 100 point season, will this be his year to do so? Can he also reach his first 50 goal season? He has been a monster in pretty much all but two games, and I definitely think he is putting the team on those broad shoulders and keeping us atop the division

I normally don't give a hoot about individual stats, but seeing Nash hit 100 points would be great. His chances this year are pretty good, based on what I've seen so far (I've been out of the loop from a Jackets perspective for much of the last month due to those pesky family and work commitments).
Nash reaching 100 points should go a long ways toward the Jackets reaching 100 points, which is the more important goal.
But seriously, his defensive numbers are projecting to be staggeringly bad so far, especially compared to last season. Last season, he was on the ice for 23 PPGA. This season, after only 16 games, he's been on the ice for almost half that. Last season, he was on the ice for 59 ESGA. This season, he's on pace to pass that mark by the middle of the season.
I've been wondering if part of the problem is puck possession. Rick's getting the points, but his lines aren't really dominating for large stretches of the game. In other words, they don't have the puck as much as better lines would, so the other team has more opportunities to score against them. When you couple that with a Jackets team that has been fairly poor defensively, it starts to show up on the stats sheet.
Haven't been impressed with what I've seen of Nash defensively on the ice this season. But he isn't the only problem. Still, if the Jackets are going to recommit to playing strong defense, I know who should be leading the charge.
I hate it when people make me defend either Hitch or Nash. You've now made me do both. Congratulations.
The portion of your post I highlighted is absolutely ridiculous as it pertains to Rick Nash's game. Since Hitch has been his coach, Rick Nash has been transformed into one of the most dangerous penalty killers in the league. He is a constant threat to score when the CBJ are a man down and I think we have Hitch to thank for that.
His defensive game is one of the reasons Nash has a chance to score 100. I don't think he will, but he's got a chance.
