Bob Mckenzie:

Three-game suspension for Curtis Glencross for the hit on Drury.

Additional TSN link/story:

I had him down for 1-2 games.

Good. That was dirty.

Too bad Richards wasn't suspended for the Booth hit...

It's good the league took this seriously. I don't know what Glencross was doing there. Maybe he thought there was going to be a short pass to Drury instead of long cross ice pass?

He never said it mattered he was jsut trying to figure out what Glencross was thinking.

Anyhow, glad we don't have this cheapshot artist on our team.

It absolutely matters. If Drury had the puck it's not a suspendable hit, as Richards on Booth has shown.

Is Glencross a repeat offender? Three games is more than I was expecting, even if it is a case of "scrub" vs. "star".

Yes, you're correct as far as league rules go. At the moment there are no rules against head-hunting. I guess I was just looking at the right or wrong end of things as far as what should be allowed or not. Currently, it's ok to give someone a concussion by head-hunting....right or wrong...

Suspension worthy but not sure if 3 games was too much? It was definitely a dirty hit.

I wasn't surprised that he got suspended and I think 3 games is just fine (had him down for 2-3)

Good too see, alot of my friends here in Calgary thought it was clean and don't realize that you can't hit players without the puck.

Unfortionately alot of them just started watching after the run and only know the Sutter style of hockey, which is basically hit anything that moves...usually a couple seconds after the player has passed the puck as well.

Sounds about right. He obviously thought the puck would be going to Drury.

He should have been suspended, and so should of all the other guys that got away with it like Richards.

Glencross is pretty dumb, but I'd have expected him to know, and do better than that.

Nothing wrong with Richards hit other than maybe a fraction late. Its hockey, not figure skating. Dont admire your pass. That is the lesson there.

The rules of hockey don't forbid potentially career ending hits. Its completely in the rules.

The rules need to change, any deliberate hit to the head on any player, not just a player who has been in allstar games, must be suspended for 20 games. Make a statement here.

Something like that will take hitting out of the game all together. I agree with Grapes. He thinks we should go back to pre-obstruction rules. I liked the game better then and it was safer for the players.

There is no lesson, players used to hit with their arms up against the body with good solid hits. Now everyone uses their body like scott stevens did. It;s lack of respect for each other, but you have a point.

Is this a joke? The game has improved ten fold since the lockout.

Really? I dont like watching PP for 50 minutes a night. Sue me. I dont like games being decided because someone drops their stick when it is tapped. I harken back to the days when a penalty was a penalty. Not because someone touches another player with their stick or their glove.

It also helps to slow down the forecheck and gives the d man a fighting chance of not having his guts splashed on the back boards.

I find it hilarious how Flames fans are defending this hit. It was so reckless. He had time to not hit him. No reason at all to hit him when he didn't even play the puck at all.

The Richards hit was bad because of the angle. It was hard for Booth to see him coming. Other than that his stick and elbows were down. Back in the day I used to get blindsided myself. Its not fun, but in the end it was my own fault really.

Yes it was reckless but at the same time, I dont think it was intentional (much like Iginla on Souray hit). If you look purely at facts without taking into account intention or other hits in the league that have gone by unnoticed, then 3 games is about right.

Most of the Flames fans are under the impression that this 3 game suspension is more to set an example than anything - which as a Flames fan sucks, but as a hockey fan; if the end result is less injury then is worth it.

We can still win without GlenX, even though he is a very great player (thanks Lowe!). I think the biggest loser out of all of this are the Rangers who lose Drury for awhile.

How was that hit not intentional? Are you saying that he accidentally hit him? He clearly intended to hit him.

I agree that 3 games is about right, and I am glad that the NHL is finally starting to crack down on these kind of hits this year. I don't think this is being done to set an example, they have cracked down this year. This isn't the first suspension they have handed out this year that would have gone untouched in previous years.

Two things working against Glencross:
  1. Drury plays for New York.
  2. Glencross is not Jerome Iginla.
