As long as Gustavsson keeps playing, I don't care what Burke says.

just a little Burke PR. Vesa is going to play again at some point, he wants his confidence level to go up to maybe win a game.

My take on this:

- He's trying to protect the Monster from the stress and pressure of playing in TORONTO.

- Trying to increase Toskala's value on the trade block

- Trying to keep Toskala motivated so he can get his play back up to par.

Well it is pretty obvious why Burke said it. Although the fact that it is obvious should negate the desired effect from it.

Man oh man the media falls right into Brian's trap every time. Of course Burke is going to stick up for Vesa, of course he's going to say a rookie goalie is playing a limited amount of games, Vesa might as well walk around with a for sale sign on him because we all know Burke's trying to trade him and obviously he's trying hold any value Vesa has which is pretty much nothing lol. We also need to remember that Vesa is being paid like a number one. We all know the truth and that this is simply what Burke will say in public.

this could be true, but.....

if we can all see through burke's comments, wouldn't gusto, toskala, and all other general managers see through his comments too and realize he's not being honest?

if everyone knows burke is full of b.s. when he says this, what's the point of him saying it? who's he fooling?

Diplomacy is an art, not a science.

Just the latest example of Berger stirring up ****.

Things are going good right now. The team is winning. The MONSTER is playing great, and Toskala has some down time where he can hopefully get his game back. Burke was just trying to encourage him, which can only help the team. We may need him if Jonas gets hurt, and if Vesa can get back on his game, we might actually be able to move him at the trade deadline.

So here comes Berger, stirring it up again. It's as if he wants the team to fail, so he can have something to talk about. It's what he does best.

The guy is a complete jerk!

Why does everyone think this is such an asinine thing to say? What's he supposed to say? That Vesa sucks and he's not even a good backup? No of course not.

Geez...

It's in this teams best interest that Vesa bounce back, any way you look at it (whether he stays or is traded). And seriously, monster has looked great but it takes more than a few games to really prove yourself. Arguably more than 1 season too.
Agreed. You can't expect Jonas to play like he did against Detroit for the rest of the season. Jonas will have bad games and he will probably even have bad stretches of games so we can't just exile Toskala. If Toskala can regain confidence and the team regains confidence in him, however unlikely that is, it will make Vesa more valuable for a Leafs playoff run or as a deadline trade asset.

I find it funny that Howard after all these years expects a GM to tell the media the truth about everything that goes on with the team.

sometimes there is wisdom in these things....

you never know...Allaire may be improving Vesa now...and who knows, maybe he plays well in his next start...and plays well the one after....and some team has a goaltending injury, or a goalie is having a horrible year...and a team needs a vet...and they scout us in those games...who knows we may be able to unload him under some scenario...

it may seem silly now, but how many of us thought Raycroft would get all those chances...and play like he's playing now?
