Dany Heatley Appreciation Night!

DANY HEATLEY APPRECIATION NIGHT!!!!

As many of you know, tonight is Dany Heatley Appreciation Night in Ottawa. They have a day chalk full of activities to honor the legendary hockey player topped off with a ceremony that will rival that of yesterday's HHOF ceremony.

There are unconfirmed reports that Jimmy Fallon and Johnny Carson were scheduled to co-emcee the event, but league officials then googled Johnny Carson and were reminded that he past away in 2005. Realizing Jimmy Fallon alone, would be sucky, they settled on bringing in ex-NHLers Pat Falloon and Jimmy Carson.

"Nobody will know the difference. The font on the poster is pretty small, so it will be hard to read the names. Plus, this night is about Dany and his contributions to the game" said event organizer Jack Ass.

"We've got a ton of fun stuff planned. All of the players will drive recklessly to the arena in his honor. We have a Dany Heatley bobble-head giveaway which is really cool, because the bobble-head size is the exact same weight as Dany's actual head. Apparently his brain mass is only a couple of ounces, so it was very easy replicate."

"Another cool thing we're doing with McDonald's and Upper Deck, is creating the first ever untradeable trading card in his honor. Each card will come with a certified contract that stipulates that the card can only be traded to friends or collectors that fall on to Heatley's pre-approved list which he can alter at any time" said an over-joyed Ass. Other players who might soon get their faces on the new "un-trading" cards include Micheal Nylander, Shawn Horcoff and Jeff Finger.

Other festivities include a Silent Auction with all the profits going to Dany Heatley himself. "It's for a great cause" said Heatley. "I have a dentist's appointment, and my house in Kelowna needs a new DVD player. I don't know what happened to it, but I was watching the Oilers video sent to me by their management, and my DVD player broke when the video showed hi-lights of the Oilers Powerplay. I wanna buy like 5 DVD players; "Sony, JVC, Samsung, Hitachi, LG... I need options."

EDIT 5:37PM- All Dany Heatley festivities were cancelled due to everyone hating him.

Rather than lifting and regurgitating everything that's on the Oilers site, I'll just add the link... http://oilers.nhl.com/club/preview.htm?id=2009020244

Injuries:

Pouliot
Stone
Horcoff
Hemsky
Jacques
Nilsson
Souray
Smid (questionable)
Chorney

Holy crap are we ever banged up! Looks like only Volchenkov is out for the Sens.

Line-Up: (will be updated when available)

Who to Watch:
The Call-Ups- Reddox and Potulny both played well in their season debuts, contributing to the big divisional win against The Western Conference Power House d' jour, the Colorado Avalanche. Was that just the adrenaline of getting the opportunity, or can these two continue to help this team?

More to come...

Mowzie, that was pretty brilliant man I can almost picture Murray now, spittle flying...ahh too funny.

Predictions, well...I'm optimistic after Rin's GDT. 3-1, with O'Sullivan, Penner and Comrie potting goals.

3/5 of the guys who should be on the top line out

I know I brought this up before---but is it time to address the fact that since Ethen's brother started working witht he players--we have suffered through some major injury years?

is the video not working for anyone else?

I stole your line Mowzie, The "Dany Heatley Appreciation Night" for one of my Voice Tracks.

This should be a gooder and tough. I wonder if they make a call to the farm, or bring up Cornet on an emergency basis.

It also coincided with the introduction of the RBK edge jersey style. Could it be that those tighter jerseys cause more shoulder related injuries? Also could they cause more concussions? I mean they are aerodynamic so players can go waaaaaay faster. Like, Totally.

It also coincided with the release of the movie Failure to Launch. I think this is important to point out too because since that coincidence happened, the oilers have failed to launch into the playoffs.

I know.

Freaky stuff.

Simon Bennett is the Oilers' new Fitness Consultant. I didn't see a single story about the SoCal conditioning camp this year - not even sure who attended although assume some did.

Awesome story about Heatley.

Its definitely a treat to see the Oilers and Senators play.

I can't wait to see the return of Mike Comrie tonight.

I hope Smid plays. 6-2 Oilers. Penner and Cogs with the hattricks.

Smid with 4 assists. Comrie with 4 assists.

Moreau with a stupid penalty.

Just speculation, but I think we'll hear about a call-up after MacIntyre clears/gets claimed to open a roster spot.. Probably has already happened and they're waiting to make it official.

Oh man...

Talk about re-enacting the Battle of Helm's Deep, looking at the Oilers lineup is like that slo-mo sequence where the old codgers and kids too young to shave are lining up to get their axes and ill fitting chain mail.

If Legolas saw this, he'd be like "Wow, we are so screwed."

The real reason we end up racking up so many injuries year after year is because this team is too soft. There's no one in this group that anyone in the NHL is afraid of. So they end up taking liberties with our players and don't fear retribution.

Big Mac could be a problem, but couldn't keep up with the game. Jacques hasn't really established himself and is already injury prone early in his career. And I like Stortini, but I doubt most NHLers really respect him. Outside of Souray, there's no one on this team that can really punish their opponent. So who's really surprised that this rash of injuries has followed after Souray had his skull smashed?

Oilers need to win this one. In fact, they need to get back on a tear like the first 8 games of the season.

Kind of irrelevant, but I was playing NHL10 and the Oilers traded Hemsky+Comrie for Volchenkov+Phillips. I thought it was pretty funny.

I'll be at the game tonight. Could be a tough one with so many guys on the shelf and our history against the Sens here isn't great.

Yeah game is on SNET East, don't know why they wouldn't expand the coverage to the West, seems dumb to me. But they make more money off PPV.
