Wow... I didn't think he'd hit the NHL. I was kinda excited about him when we got him in the Smyth deal... but I was worried when they sent him to the ECHL.

For those much wiser than me, why didn't the oilers recall him yesterday knowing that Nilsson won't play and that they were going to put Big Mac on waivers? If he does make it in time- he'll most likely be ineffective as he'll be tired from all the travel. Just curious. Thanks!

I like the kid, and thought he had a decent showing in the exhibition games, but seemed terribly slow. That is one concern I have with the current crop of guys on the farm -- their foot speed is lacking, something acknowledged by even Rob Daum.

He's another guy who sort of lost his way, and doesn't bring much at all offensively, but allegedly has recommitted to bringing a solid game and consistent effort every night down in Springfield. I hope he does well, but honestly I do not expect him to have the same sort of impact as Potulny and Reddox did in the prior game.

Probably because there wasn't technically room for him on the roster until Mac either cleared waivers or was taken. That said, they probably could have flown him in and just not submit the transaction until today, so who knows what really happened.

Pretty much, if I remember the game correctly, Canada was up big at that point too. Don't get me wrong it's not a "real" penalty, it's a penalty of situation.

Edit: Nevermind it was 1-1, terrible.

Come on now, it would have only been 2 months, because that kid was able to protect himself good enough to not suffer a serious injury.

Trade bait????

Just listening to HNIC radio on Sirius radio and they think he is recalled as a showcase. Their reasoning is simply that he's not the best player available in Springfield right now so why else.

Not so sure I agree with them but who knows. A move is definately needed when bodies start coming back.

He's the best healthy player for the spot he's going to play. They need more size as well, and these "better" players are smaller if I'm not mistaken.

He's not being showcased, imo, because he has more value to the team as a potential player then he would in any trade.

Eh? I think they are confused.

I don't think that any of the better players on the farm are signed by the Oilers. Linglet, Fretter, and Wiseman are on AHL deals. Minard is injured. I suppose they could have called up Colin MacDonald, but I think O'Marra will bring more to that table (IE: faceoff wins)

Really looking forward to seeing him in tonight's game. Hopefully he can be the next Brule or JFJ, so to speak.

He's 6'1 buddy.

Even though some people think he's a bust based on his training camp last year I think he can play a similar role to Ryan Stone here.

Read the thread buddy.

He has already admitted he made a mistake and has had about 5 people point it out to him already.

I did reread it before you posted that but I thought I'd leave it since it wasn't a big deal.

He did fine. Made smart, safe plays with the puck, fore checked well, laid out some good hits. Considering he didnt even get to warm up, I thought he did ok.

I was at the game (my first ever NHL game), and he was more active then you'd think. His positionning away from the puck was good, always hustling, showing great effort. He must've just made it on time, as they announced him as a healthy scratch, but he was a pleasant surprise tonight. Besides the obvious hitting/blocking shots.

I was a little surprised by this move, but O'Marra is precisely the type of fourth line centre that this team needs. His game is built around that type of role. I think based on that he could play himself into the position, if he shows enough during this call up.

However, I think that he likely isn't ready, but even if he isn't ready, I'm thinking that this is a smart move by Oiler management for O'Marra's development. I think that the organization sent a clear message to O'Marra when they sent him to the ECHL. It probably shook O'Marra's confidence a fair bit, which was probably needed for him at the time. His development really seemed to have almost stalled for quite a while. Even a short stint up with the big club will should help to rebuild his shaken confidence and perhaps help re-energize his game, getting it more on track for the AHL level and for a future as an NHLer.

The other possibility, of course, as others have stated, is that they are simply showcasing the kid.

I don't think any team showcases a guy of O'Marras caliber.
