In my 25 years of watching, the first two games of the Leafs/Blues '93 series was the best hockey I've ever seen. Plenty of scoring chances, and Potvin and Cujo were outstanding.

Yeah I agree with this one. I remember when the Flyers were eliminated, everyone up here was saying that a Devils-Stars matchup would be awful, but it was one of the best series.

The best game of that series was Game 5 I think. Brodeur and Belfour were outstanding. It was 0-0 after 2 overtimes, and then Mike Modano ended it to save the Stars from elimination. That too was one of the best games.

Vancouver/New York in 1994.

There's nothing sweeter than ending a long, 54-year drought.

I'll be unbiased - although PHI/DET ended the Wings' drought, it was a quick sweep (albeit "sweet"). The Finals in 1994 went the distance, and was just a crazy year for hockey overall.

Great Picks!!

I have some more.
Habs vs. Nords 1984 pure flipping hatred and two brawls in the same game. St. Patricks Day Massacre!
Habs vs. Bruins 1984 -1994 they met almost every year and it was the greatest rivalry in its day. Adams Division Clash.
Neely, Miller, O'Reilly, Bourque, vs Roy, Chelios, Corson, and Nilan
I love seeing habs vs Broons again, Souray is going to bound on someone tonight.

Nords/Habs Division final in early 80s ... went to seven games, when the hated Nords won on a goal by P. Stastny in OT

I got my revenge 02, when the Wings beat the Avs in 7 in the conference finals.

The 1987 Finals between Philly and Edmonton was a fantastic experience. JJ Daigneault's goal in Game 6 in the Spectrum led to what is still the noisiest building I have heard.

Though I am not saying it is the second best series ever, the 1980 battle between Minnesota and Montreal is often overlooked. The Habs were the Champs the prior four seasons and Minnesota was a last place team in both 1978 and 1979. The North Stars shocked all by winning the first two games in Montreal then the Canadiens came back to win the next three. Minnesota won the next two games including Game 7 in Montreal.

Ah yes, I was at every game in Buffalo in that series (actually I was at every Sabres home playoff game that year), and it was absolutely a riot. I loved it.

Forgot a great Montreal/Philly conference final in the mid 80s. The one where Claude Lemieux scored on an empty net in the pregame skate. We turned on tv to watch the start of the game, and they were 5 minutes into a huge brawl before the opening faceoff was dropped.

1987. Good choice.

Absolutly. Even though the Devils lost game 5, I still consider that the best game I have ever seen. Game 6 wasn't far behind.

Any of the Battle of Alberta series. Even if the series was short, it was entertaining.

Homer choice: 95 Wings-Hawks. You could tell they hated eachother...

That series stunk, way too one sided in favour of the Sabres to be counted among the greatest series of all time. Neither team was healthy and the games were not really all that good. The Sabres/Dallas final that year was much better.

Flyers-Oilers in 87 has to be right up there. Hextall's amazing run as a goalie leads the Flyers to come within the closest of knocking off an Oilers dynasty right in their prime.

Man, the whole '94 playoffs, the greatest playoffs I watched live for sure, all those series were great, even Hasek vs. Brodeur was great despite the lack of goals.

Isles/Pens in 93.

Drama:

1. Turgeon out from the Hunter hit, Ray Ferraro everywhere
2. The Volek OT goal
3. Kaspar hitting Mario while Mario was sitting on the ice
4. Rookies Kasparaitis/Malakhov pairing fishing the puck out from the goalline on 3 separate occasions.
5. Tom Fitzgerald and his two SH goals
6. The Pilon/Stevens hit, resulting in Stevens needing his face restructured.
7. 7 game series resulting in the end of Pitt's bid to be a dynasty.

I was too young to remember a lot of details about 80-84 so this series was huge for me. Incredibly entertaining and I was fortunate enough to go to the 3 Isles home games.

Leafs/Kings that year was excellent too, Gilmour vs. Gretzky.
