How The Hell???

How the hell are we winning ANY games at all? Look at our no-name line-up. On paper, we should suck big time. Even at full strength we look weak.

Of course the game is not played on paper. IMO we need a second-line center for Patrick Elias and David Clarkson or Nick Bergfors. We also need one elite defenseman.

So I am talking two very good players away from being real Cup contenders.

Do you agree? How far away are we from winning the Cup? No reason to play the season unless we are trying to win the Cup. That should be every team's goal.

Just want your opinions. Thanks!

We basically have the same team that we had last yr which dominated through the regular season. This team is winning despite injuries to many of its best players, but so was the case early last yr. The only difference is Lemaire knows how to win close games unlike Sutter last year. Without paul martin and oduya sutter would have no idea how to win games.

We don't need that center. We just need that defenseman.

We do if you want to have a 4th line.

Do we sign Nylander? Will he play in NJ? Would he help us at this stage of his career?

Thanks!

So get a 4th line center. Go pick up a Manny Malhotra or Blair Betts.

What? He's signed with washington through next season at a 4.8mill cap hit. He's also a walking injury now. No thanks..

Big no to Nylander. He is washed up, and his contract is terrible.

I don't see a centre as a big need for us. Our offence is fine for now. I would argue that our top 9 is competitive with any in the league when healthy.

The defence is where we are going to need help. Unless Greene really establishes himself as a top defenceman, we need another top 4 (preferably top 2) defenceman in order to make a good run at the Cup.

To "become a top defenseman", Greene would have to literally grow six inches and transform into Duncan Keith to make me happy.

You're one of the reasons I hardly ever post anything anymore. Also, I am still not into the season. Still getting over Yankees winning it all and still in the football mode. I watch the games but cannot figure out how the hell we are winning. Marty even lets in another softie to Brian Lee and we still win. Marty makes some of the greatest saves a goalie can ever make, and then lets in some crapy goal that leaves you shaking your head.

I saw that Nylander was waived and wondered if you think he would help. We just have to pay him, we don't have to give up a player to get him. If he doesn't work out we can always waive him and let him play in Sweden or Russia.

BTW, who would that defenseman be who would put us over the top. No wacky player movements now!!!

Exactly. It doesn't seem to matter who's in the lineup or who's behind the bench, they still find a way to win. It may not be pretty and we may not know what the hell kind of system they're using, but it works.

As for the debate over a center or defenseman, I'd lean towards a defenseman...preferably one that can actually get their shot to the net consistently.

I'm not saying it's likely, but it's possible Greene makes the most of this opportunity he's been given, and turns into something special. We seem to find a lot of late bloomers.

More realistically though, we should be looking for a top 4 defenceman. If a suitable centre becomes available and the price is right, we should pursue that option as well. We're set pretty much everywhere else.

We don't suck that bad lol. We're basically the same team as last year just with a better coach.

Sutter might have been a bad coach in the playoffs, but he was good enough to win the majority of the games last season with Scott "Firedrill" Clemmensen and Weekes in net.

We are getting good goaltending from Marty and The Danis.

We are getting goals for a variety of forwards (when they are playing, at least).

We are not being dominated (though it will happen time-to-time).

We aren't winning on lucky goals or 'getting the bounces.'

We are disciplined and that fact singlehandedly won the game vs the Caps and Sens.

Giving up the first goal does NOT get this team down.

Ooops, bell rang - gotta teach
