Eh, that wasn't intentional. I don't like that rule, they should treat it like icing.

Don't you know, Williams is a damaged goods and scored like 5 goals in the past 2 seasons.

Besides, Williams has Smyth and Kopitar there. I bet you Williams wouldn't be much better than Cole or Whitney if he played here with Staal.

Can we stop all this Cole bashing? The word "Cole" makes me want to puke.

I love that delay of game rule. It penalizes you for being bad at hockey, which I have no problem with.

That being said, what an amazing penalty kill. That is the Yelle and Ward the Hurricanes thought they signed.

Williams >>>>>>>>>> Cole.

But without Cole we don't make ECF last season.

Legace with those old pads and the unpainted mask looks like Irbe back there. Been stickhandling like him too in this game.

Staal can pass just fine. Watch him in all star games. His wingers just can't seem to finish and he decides that he has to do things himself.

Williams has 4G and 9A in 13 games. Cole has what, a point or two? Actually, just one. 1G, 0A in 6 games.

No matter who's playing with who, Williams is the much better player this season. Last season Cole sucked in edmonton, it wasn't an issue of us not having any way to know.

And Cole was rather invisible in the playoffs last year too. We probably could have made the ECF without him, especially if Williams was able to come back by the playoffs like he was hoping to before the trade.

Cole is a true power forward playing with center who doesn't know how to pass and super soft Whitney or Samsonov.

Wiliams just got lucky playing with Kopitar.

Samsonov with "A"? Not Gleason, not Cullen, not Walker, not Cole... Samsonov?

I may be mistaken but I think Trip has known Manny Legace for awhile. Maybe he could regale us with some stories of him.

Wrong Cole aside from his streak up one of the wings and a shot into the goalies pads is useless. Williams offensive instincts are waaaaaayyyy better

Staal knows how to pass. He's never had less assists then goals until last year. That includes junior. Yes, he has always scored more goals then your typical center. But he's not at all incapable of passing.

He is not an elite passer, true. He can't turn crap into gold. But we keep putting crap on his wings.

Kopitar is not a significant upgrade over Staal. Never really has been. His proportion of goals to assists is nearly identical to Staal's, and he scores less overall.

Williams has quite simply been much better then Cole has. I love Erik, don't get me wrong, and it does pain me to say it, but he has sucked this season and last.

It was interesting listening to Nick Kypreos today as he talked about a struggling Sidney Crosby, who ranks somewhere around 16th in the league in points and is pointless in 5 games. Kypreos went on to say Crosby is an elite talent who should and does make those around him better. With said said, Kypreos touched on does there come a time when Sid looks up at the owners box or the GM's box and says 'Get me someone to play with'. For all Crosby has done for the Pens and city of Pittsburgh, aswell as the nhl, he deserves 'that guy' on his wing to play with him. As for the other wing, you can put a guy there one night and another guy there the next, but let Sid have that linemate that can do things on the ice to his level, or close to it.

For me, that summed up quite well what should be done with/for Eric. I know there are different angles you can look at this by and there are many valid points that can be brought to the table, but I don't think it can/should be argued that Eric Staal could use some better linemates.
