From a Nashville perspective sure.

From a Washington perspective, this trade is Alzner and Semin for Weber. That's a bit tough to swallow.

Why would Nashville want Semin anyways? It seems like a terrible fit for both Semin and Nashville.

Its surely a high price to pay but physical #1 dmen who can skate, hit and score aren't easy to come by!

If Nashville can get Radulov back Semin would feel a lot more comfortable there. They guy is one of the most skilled players in the league and an excellent playoff performer.

Tootoo would help the caps. I know he is a UFA or maybe an RFA but the Caps need a legit bottom six player who can hit and provide energy.

Poile loves his dmen and wont let one like weber go without a steep return.

I doubt the Caps can give up both Flash and Semin.

Semin + a prospect (not Alzner/Carlson, and besides why would the Preds need another D prospect?) for Suter + whatever. Or would Suter be tougher to get than Weber?

And GMGM loves his high end D prospects. He's not going throw in Alzner in a deal that's already sending out by far his best trade chip in Semin.

I'd be more curious about what it would take to get Hamhuis and Tootoo. That might be a little more realistic.

The Caps would still have Carlson to go along with Green and Weber. We are in contention now and the window is there. Can't wait for BOTH Alzner and Carlson to come into their prime to truly help us.

Alzner is not a throw in really. Weber is THAT good and would command a steep price.

Yeah, just imagine how good Alzner is gonna be one day? Maybe even half as good as Weber is now!

Gretzky got traded. Anyone can be traded for the right price unless perhaps their names are Ovechkin, Crosby or Malkin.

Slightly contradictory given Gretzky>Oveckhin, Crosby and Malkin

You know what I mean. Fact is that there is no truly untouchable player given the return.

Realistically, McPhee refused to trade Alzner for Pronger. Why would he trade him for Weber?

You are suggesting the Caps traded a young 40 goal scorer and a developing top 5 pick defenseman for a soon another young NHL defenseman and a role player. Two potential allstars for one.

Caps dont need to do that.

I would also comment that the Caps need experience on their blue line a lot more than they need another young defenseman. Again think Pronger vs Weber. The Caps have what Weber brings and dont have what Pronger brings.

Really? A big physical dman that can shoot, hit, skate, score and play with a bit of a mean streak? Are you referring to Jeff Schultz?

Weber> 35yo Pronger

Edit: Weber is about 10 years younger than Pronger and on the upswing. Would be far easier trading young players for him as opposed to Pronger.

Weber is a wet dream. The Caps can't give up Semin and Azner.

It wont work. Nashville probably wont be able to afford the stupid amount of money semin will ask for. The past 2 years his stats have him near the top of the league. My guess is he'll be asking for over 7 million.

And it's just a guess, based on no source or background info other than the previous contract negotiation with Washington.

Tootoo has zero value as a pending UFA. So like has been said, it's essentially Semin+Alzner for Weber. I'll agree that Weber has more value for Semin, but the difference isn't Alzner.

And do you really think Nashville's management would really want to go after an enigmatic Russian?
