So they would trade a RFA for a UFA? Lets see:

- If they trade for Kovalchuk, and can't re-sign him, they get NOTHING
- If they keep Kane, and can't re-sign him, they TRADE him, or leave him open to OFFER Sheets.

Let see: Nothing....or picks and prospects?

I can see your point, but if that is the attitude of the GM then Atl ends up like the Panthers and JBo - Kovy just leaves at the end of the year for nothing. If it looks like Kovy isn't going to sign, you'll see the overall asking price for him drop quite a bit. Atl would still get a very good roster player and picks/prospects, but names like Kane won't be included (IMO)

... and yet the Thrash are the 29th most valuable franchise. Lost money last year. Even watching Braves games it doesn't look like the city supports them very well and they have a very good recent history (last 20 yrs).

Of course, all of this argues against making any deal with the Hawks that involves Campbell, which probably kills any chance of the Hawks getting in there.

The monetary losses from the last year are also much lower than other teams. The Thrashers have potential s a big earner once the team has some success. Success=Bandwagoners=Bandwagoners=Higher Ticket Prices=More Moniez
