Pelle Lindbergh 24 Years Tomorrow!

Opus told me to repost this again in its own thread!

Pelle Lindberg 24 Years Tomorrow

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I come in peace....he played here when I was around 10 years old....

I came across this article in todays local paper.....

http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/sports/

I know he played for the Flyers, but the Flyers were our NHL Club here at the time. I remember watching him and went to almost every game he played when he was here. And as a litttle girl at the time he was my first hockey crush I had. His smile while he warmed up and the quickness of his saves just had me in aww. I guess after that made me more fond of goalies then ever. I will never forget the mask he wore either. Was so proud and pissed that he made it to the NHL. Selfish reasons..I wanted him to stay here. Proud..he finally made it to his dream.

Pelle Lindberg...gone too soon!

I thought it was related to the book, then googled a few things and realized it wasn't.

Seeing as I can't merge a post to it's own thread...I pm'd MaineHockey1 and asked him to re-post.

Don't tell Irish.

Opus...BTW...Im a girl!

He played his minor league days here and was the first hockey player that I really started to follow. I can remeber the morning that I heard he was in the crash...and then the morning that I found out he had passed away...I started to cry...my dad ran into my bedroom to ask me what was wrong ...I had told him and on the way to school he and I talked about his play here and what great memories we had with him here. He will forever be in my heart as ( i know the Habs board will eat me alive) the BEST goalie ever! You Flyers fans had something special in him and it was too bad it had to be taken away so fast!

God Bless Him , his family, and the Flyers fans here!

He died 2 years BEFORE I was born, and I get choked up and creeped out when i drive past the spot he died. I thank my mother for old game tapes and such to see him play. What a talent.

I missed good hockey. I wish i was alive then. After watching games from the 80's and 70's I see why so many people are disgusted with todays NHL. Pelle sure did stand on his head. And his style is a lot like Bernie, it certainly wasnt a bunch of crap when he said he idolized him, it shows.

But Pelle's story is really interesting. How many kids get to meet their idol, play for the team they idolized, and have so much success? It would be like me playing for the Flyers and Desjardins being the coach. I couldnt fathom it. As great as Hexy was, I think Pelle could have taken them futher. That will be debated forever.

Apparently, he lived in the develpment I live in now which is kinda interesting.

I have to dig up my Maine Mariners yearbooks. Wow you had to go there. I was at the 1st game at the Spectrum after he died. That was some emotional evening. He was and still is missed.

I have those too! It was hard from me to go back to the Civic Center for a few games...things just were NOT the same.

U remember Paul Evans, Wayne Shaab, Frank Bathe, Len Hachborne ..oh the memories..old time hockey is SOOO much better then the crap the new generation is exposed to.

The bench clearing brawls against the Sherbrooke Canadiens, Adirondack Red Wings, or the Hershey Bears. They just dont have those anymore!

Heym u ever want to stroll down memory lane ...PM me I would love to trade stories about the OLD TIME AHL Mariners!

Oh how I agree, seems everything these days is a watered down piece of crap version of something that was great. God Bless youtube! lol. In the fight thread I was talking about how I'd love to see another Eric lindros, but wont because this league wouldnt let him play. Also seems a lot of the "talent" is generic these days, not many characters of the game any more. Pelle, from what I gather was a colorful guy. I was excited to get Emery here because of his personality, and it seems thats gone from him now (I hope tonight he lets loose!).
