Ales Hemsky

Ales Hemsky has the potential and skills to be an elite forward in the NHL, but it just doesn't seem like he wants to become an elite player, at least in Edmonton. (he sort of reminds me of Kovalev with the way he plays)

And if the Oilers were to get rid of him, what would they get in return?

What's about Cleary and Abdelkader for Hemsky?

The Oilers wont be able to get a return of equal talent and contract.
He needs to be packaged up with Gilbert/Grebeshkov for a "superstar"

I wouldn't mind packaging either of them, considering how frustrating they have been to watch as well.

Where do I sign?

Rangers have enough defensive depth in the system for this. The Rangers only have one player in their system that might be as good as Hemsky, giving up two young defensemen is worth it.

"superstar"?
It depends on what you mean by superstar.

Crosby,AO...etc would take a hell of a lot more than that.

You might get a UFA in Kovalchuk for that package but only if he won't sign in Atlanta.

Seriously, what superstar would you want for say Hemsky and Gilbert? Remember you have $8.1m going the other way.

If it was a sign(long term) and trade I would do it! I would love to pry Staal out of Carolina but I dont see why they would trade him

Meh, I would rather switch Sauer and Mcdonagh just because I think moving two top-end defenseman like Girardi and Mcdonagh makes the Rangers defensive depth almost a problem.

I don't see trading Hemsky as the answer to our problems like some fans do. Keep him and continue to build. Try to resign him. If he decides to walk in a few years so be it we got some good years out of him. If the oilers are so inept that they cant make the playoffs for 6 years he should walk.

As unlikely as it would be I would like to suggest the unlikely 3 way trade

To Edmonton - Vinny (if he approves) & Kurtis Foster.

To Vancouver - Ales Hemsky, Tom Gilbert & Gilbert Brule.

To Tampa Bay - Kevin Bieksa, Vancouver's 1st in 2010, Kyle Wellwood & Alex Burrows.

High price for the Oilers to give up but they get an elite 1st line C to run their team. (They could also start looking for a dumping ground for Shawn Horcoff). and a quality big Right handed D to fill in on the bottom pairing (should be a cheaper replacement for Steve Staios.

Tampa Bay gets a similar package to the rumored deal for Tavares (If NYI picked Hedman) saves some money and hopes to get around 1st overall to have a Stamkos-Hall 1-2 combo to replace the Vinny-Stamkos combo right now. Wellwood was added to throw some salary away and could work as a temporary 2nd/3rd line C for Tampa until they find who they want.

Vancouver adds another elite playmaker someone who could lineup with Kesler and Raymond and create a possible top line to challenge the Sedin's. As for Brule I think he would be a slight improvement as a 3rd line C on Wellwood. He may not find his WHL game but he could very find a spot as physical bottom 6 forward capable of helping this team.

I understand the big no-no's to this deal:
- Edmonton deals Hemsky to a division rival.
- No one waives their NTC to freeze their arse off in Edmonton.
- 3 way deals are rare.

it would be nice to have lecavalier, but thats a ton of money tied up in 2 centers.

plus vancouver wins this trade, which as an edmonton fan i must object just on principle

I am not very large on trading Brule, because it looks like he is finally turning a corner and turning into a good NHL player, and the Oilers need more players of his kind in the top 6.

If the Oilers can sucker somebody on Nilsson that would be a different story.

Dubinsky is pretty overrated. He's a good 2 way guy but whats his offensive upside? I don't know. Besides I think if we were trading Hemsky it would have to be in a package for someone where you wouldn't need to use the word upside. They would already be proven.

i think hemsky means more to the oilers right now then anything they could get back for him, even when packaged with a d man.

I just dont really see how hemsky packed with gilbert for a "superstar" really benefits the other team in question. yes hemsky is a great player, but hasnt proven to be a franchise player yet

How about this? Not sure if it's enough, though.

From Colorado: TJ Hensick, Cameron Gaunce/Colby Cohen/Stefan Elliott, Ryan Stoa, and a 3rd rounder 2010
