Conboy Waived

Got the tweet that Conboy has been waived.

I presume no one will pick him up and I presume its to make room on the roster for 2 rats to arrive with the Yelle and Walker injuries.

Clearly this is the answer to all our problems. Get ready for the 10 game winning streak.

No word on them yet, just both have upper body and are not at practice today.

Another token waive of a ham-and-egger that Mo doesn't like? Really, JR? Really? WHEN THE FRELL ARE YOU GOING TO ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING THAT WILL ACTUALLY HAVE AN IMPACT?

I can imagine Conboy sitting in the corner of the room after practice. Maurice bursts through the door and looks around then points in his direction.

"YOU. This is your fault".

And Conboy lowers his head and leaves the room.

What do you expect him to do?? He isnt going to waive a guy who will have trade value in 2 months. And if he did you all would be on here skewering him for terrible asset management. His only option at this point is to waive guys like Conboy, who frankly isnt good enough to even be considered a ham n egger. The trade market is entriely too soft right now to make a deal especially when the other GMs know how much you want to change your roster. He has to wait till the market firms up and teams know what they need going into the stretch run. This is simple market economics. Does anyone really think any roster move right now would make any difference when it comes to making the playoffs..if the answer is no then you wait till your assets are worth more.

Im frustrated too but nothing can be done right now. Just enjoy the beatdown and a possible Taylor Hall sighting

if only he won a few of those fights. I think in all his time here i can remember 1 win, when he took Vandermeer to task. Its a bit like rivalry rules, if you are always the nail and never the hammer how much are you really doing for your team.

When I made that video, I had to spend forever trying to find clips where he wasn't getting hammered.

I actually think it would have been hilariously ironic to make a mixtape of him getting beat down.

I partially agree. I am by no way saying he should waive guys with value and I agree that he can get more value near the deadline, but he (and/or Maurice) can still do some things to "shake" things up right now. For example:

1) Make one (or two) of the veterans a healthy scratch for a game or two. What do they have to lose? From everything I read, the locker room right now isn't great so it isn't like that move would "damage" the chemistry.

2) Bring up a few more young players and keep them here for more than 2 games. I realize there are some limitations, but there is still some more room to do this. Maybe the waiving of Conboy (along with Walker/Yelle injuries) might make this a necessity.

I'm not so frustrated that nothing can be done from a trade standpoint.

I am frustrated as a STH paying good money to see a team that rarely gives 100% for 60 minutes. That is where I think the Coach and GM can do more now to try to get that out of them. I don't expect them to win all the time....I don't even expect them to play every game "inspired"...but it would be good to see either of those things occasionally.

On the flip-side, a couple of Marines from Camp Lejeune sat in front of me last night and were entertaining to say the least. It was there first Hockey game and they were having a great time (they actually got the wave going). One of them is headed back to Afghanistan so they were cutting loose a little. Actually made the game more enjoyable.

Waiving Conboy allows this sort of thing to happen. Don't forget there is a 23 man roster limit. Sending down Conboy frees up a roster spot to call somebody up, and I imagine that's exactly what we will do.

With Conboy on his way down, hopefully making room for Boychuk, maybe when Pitkanen returns (likely tomorrow), we can send Rodney back and bring up one of Bowman/Samson, give them a sniff.

If we're going to be without Yelle & Walker, I wouldn't mind seeing this line-up for a couple games. And let's face it, we're not playing a powerhouse team like Philly or Washington where it would be much more competition and a little tougher for the kids. Our next two games are vs. the Islanders and Wild, "lighter" teams in the standings, if you will. It's two real good matchups not only for our crappy team, but a real good opportunity for the kids. Give the kids a chance here in these next couple games, the opportunity looks quite appealing.

Whitney - Cullen - Ruutu
Bowman - Boychuk - Sutter or Boychuk - Sutter - Samson
Samsonov - Jokinen - Cole
Kostopoulos - Brind'Amour - LaRose

Yeah..I realize there are restrictions...and that's what I was referring to when I mentioned that the injuries and waiving Conboy might allow for this.

Hopefully it is more than 1 or 2 games though.

A couple of years ago, the team was fun to watch in that stretch at the end of the season with the likes of Aucoin and Bayda giving it there all.

We're going to see more "moves" like this with guys that are borderline useless like Conboy and Yelle (possibly Leighton too once Ward is back) until we're into the back half of the year. Right now teams just flat out can not afford to make any moves and we wouldn't come close to getting fair value for any of our guys unless we're willing to take a bad contract back ourselves. Christmas, which is the time frame JR gave, is on the early side still. We're likely stuck with our crap until mid January unless there's a team that wasn't entirely expected to be a contender for a deep run that has a lot of cap space to make a move (LA, Colorado).
