S. Niedermayer (ANA) and Fabian Brunnstrom (DAL) on the block

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=298104

Quote:
Two surprising names have surfaced to fuel the possibility of NHL trades. Anaheim defenceman Scott Niedermayer is one, and sophomore Dallas forward Fabian Brunnstrom the other.

The Newark Star-Ledger quoted Niedermayer as saying, "I think it's a possibility," when asked about being traded by Anaheim this season. Niedermayer doesn't have a no-trade clause, but in follow-up, Niedermayer says his family loves Anaheim and he isn't interested in leaving.
Can't imagine the market for Brunnstrom would be overwhelming... but Niedermayer?

Nieds to a contender. Maybe Pittsburgh or Washington?

Neids on Washington would be pretty intense. Cap though?

The Nieds thing makes little sense -- Anaheim is giving up? No way. He is probably expecting to be traded if they are out of the playoff race. That is all.

Nylander was waived - something like Shaone Morrissonn going the other way would take care of the salary.

Not unless Anaheim waits like half the year to trade him. Then your looking at 3M on the cap. You should be able to fit him under.

Scotty gave a standard answer and this gets overblown. However, it doesn't mean I am not intrigued by what the Ducks can get. If Anaheim trades Niedermayer, they would want a Pronger type deal in return. From Washington, I would expect no less than Azner, Carlson, and 1st pick 2010.

Niedermayer's already retired once, how is he going to get the same return as a top level D still with multiple years still to go?

If it comes to trading Nieds, we won't get that much. Pronger had a year left in his deal. I would look at the Forsberg and Hossa deals as benchmarks.

A young roster player + good, not great prospect + 1st.

Agreed. Maybe Washington's 1st 2010, and Prospect?

I wouldn't believe anything TSN publishes concerning Brunnstrom. They've had it out for him from the beginning.
