According to the negativity posters, then, Gomez is turning out to be a total disaster, with only 1 point more than Steve Begin.

Gainey

Nice to see Lang's career wasn't ended last year.

Tanguay had 41 points in 50 games with us last season. Kovalev had 65. What's your point? They all regressed and now suck balls?

Most of the players Bob let go were quality players; he just decided that it was time to start fresh with a new core, and therefore let them sign elsewhere.

Just a little hypocritical to talk about that subject when things are going well. But not allowed to talk about an ex-habs that is doing fine 'cause in that case "it's in the past".....

What the hell does this even mean , Quality Players ?
Quality what ? The quality of NOT being Winners ? Because honestly that's what they were.
This team now is built on a winner attitude, no more me myself and I Bull **** !

Never though Steve Begin would be the leading scorer amongst players we let go.

Him and Ryder play out of their minds for Julien for some reason.

Well he shouldn't finish with 70 points...., but I wouldn't call it some reasons....Julien is a great coach. His lineup is depleted and they still compete. I understand Gainey letting him go 'cause Carbonneau didn't like Bégin, but still this is exactly what you need in a 4th liner. Energy, dedication, great PK play....Yes the occasionnal bonehead penalties but that's not enough to throw him in the garbage.

Don't forget he had been really injury prone as well.

While interesting to look at, we are still only 10 games into the season. So far the moves look pretty good but I don't expect guys like Koivu, Kovy and Tanguay to stay at the point levels they are at right now.

For the new guys I am really happy with Cammi and Gionta brings it pretty much every shift. Gomez has been ok not amazing but not bad I still think he can bring more production.

After Cammi the signing I am most happy with is Mara, he protects his teammates, plays some solid defense and has been pretty good overall so far. Spacek has been a little disappointing, not bad but he has not stood out more offensively which I have expected. My views anyways.

Gainey let Begin go because he was forever injured. No other reason than that. He will play another 2 weeks then he will be out for 4.

Still too early to tell. Just like last week was an over-reaction, let's not start planning the parade route just yet. Give this team another 10-15 games before we see it's true potential.

That being said, I love watching the work ethic from this team and I don't get that sick feeling in my stomach from year's past. This team will be better next year, with some more adjustments and Markov back.

Playoffs are still precarious without Markov and O'Byrne. We have defensemen that are playing way too much for their caliber.

I for one really appreciate this thread.

Soooo many time when a player leaves, is traded or isn't resigned and goes on to do well with a new club so many posters here bash the hell out of the GM and how stupid he is and he should be fired .... What makes it worse is that it's almost never mentioned when the player does horribly, they just fall by the way side and are forgotten.

Well I'm happy that the time was taken to give props where they're due and they great improvements that were made to this team for players that are contributing more then the ones who left. Reguardless of the emotional attachement we may have for those players, this new crop is a better group and now the numbers are beginning to show it as is their play on the ice.

Thanks for the GREAT thread Habsfan56!

The main difference between the old habs and the new habs is in coaching. Not on scoring stats.

Even when the Habs were losing this year without scoring more then 2 per game, it was obvious they were playing a much better game, with structure and intensity. Goals/wins were bound to come.

I disagree. The old Habs are for the most part in the decline of their careers and the new ones are in their prime's for the most part. The new ones are all shooters and more durable from before they came and seem to have more drive and capable of delivering on that drive.

Coaching has some to do with it but not as much as you're giving credit to. Look at A. Kosty, he isn't shooting the puck anymore or playing better then before, neither is Latender or Lapierre and they have the same benefit of coaching as the other players.

I say let's give credit where credit is due and say that Gainey went out and got us some real gamers. Once the system IS in place and it's executed then I see even greater things. Add Markov and we could have a really solid team come spring time.

The stats are interesting to look at but don't really tell the whole story. For me I look at the desire to compete on a nightly basis.

The best move we've made is signing Giota over Kovalev. Yes Kovalev is a Major talent, but he doesn't try to do it every night. Our team is much better with Gionta on it than we would have been with Kovalev. Gionta makes everyone around him try harder and want to be better, while Kovalev made everyone feel inferior.

Cammalleri is a big improvement on Tanguay. How many battles for pucks has Cam won this year... and he's puny.

Gomez has been awesome, I'd like to think Koivu would have done as well for us, but we'll never know. Koivu tried all the time, so does Gomez.

Moen>=Kosto I like both but feel more comfortable with Moen on the ice.

Too bad about Begin... he really would have fit in well on THIS team, but needed to be away from Carbo. BG decided to give the kids a chance so he wouldn't have played.

Spacek/Mara Better than whatever we let go.

Bergeron> Brisebois. Both defensive liabilities, but at least Bergs can shoot. Our PP is back with him.

Gill makes me sad
