Garon plays awesome and becomes our new starting goaltender.
Jackets win 10-1
Garon is so hot he is melting the ice in the crease and the officials demand a goalie change or game postponement. Mason is put into the game for 20 seconds and allows the only goal through the 5-hole from 190 feet.
I've never heard of a veteran being scratched for conditioning purposes. Tampa Bay did it a couple times with Stamkos last year.
Honestly, from what I understood after reading Puck-Rakers, management doesn't sound too happy about this. I find it strange that they'd publicly say it's due to him not being in shape.
Well, the Stamkos thing was different because, among other things, they wasted several weeks of the season with Barry Melrose as head coach and Rick Tocchet had to start over and re-do some of the two-a-days. They wanted to break Stamkos in right as well. Now he's doing just fine.
But if it's indeed just being lazy, then Commie has some work to do and I side with management. You need to be at the top of your game. Injury should hold you back, not laziness.
Is this just bad conditioning on his part or is this still tied to the injury? If it's the injury, fine, but if it's just laziness, then I have an issue with it and hope he really fixes it.
If his general level of fitness were not up to par, he would still be slow in recovering from his injury no matter how hard he was working at it. Sounds like "sending a message" to me. Commie is a veteran guy, a vocal guy, a personality. Perhaps the braintrust feels he's setting a bad example.
