Not sure if this has been posted yet.

I thought it was infantile ... My dad is bigger than your dad, kind of thing, Gainey said Tuesday after session one of the annual general manager meetings in Toronto. Its disappointing.

I dont know [about] Halak ... but if this happened to you, you might want to pick up the phone and let your agent know that hes not doing the best for you.

wow. That's a pretty direct comment for gainey to say. Good on him. I really hope they start ****ing with people who draw negativity to this team. People need to realize that all that attention hurts us, and that it isn't tolerated.

Why don't you start a GM career and do a better job than him.

This is the type of thing that shows why he's one of the few GMs that can work in a place like Montreal.

He takes it as it goes, with class, and not giving anything to those vultures to feed on.

Obviously the poster in question won't ever be a GM but Bob Gainey, for all his values, is amongst the lower-tier of GMs for the past 6 years. I can only think of Don Wadell in ATL, Burke in TOR, Polie in NSH and Maloney in PHX who have objectively done worse than BG.

It's a shame because I love him, but I don't think his heart's in it anymore.

I have a short memory so I sure would like to see the team he started with compared with today to backup your comment.

That's a coward's argument. Yes the team has almost completely changed, so has the game. So has EVERY OTHER TEAM. Just because he changed players doesn't mean other GMs didn't do their jobs. He's not doing all these moves in a friggin frozen-world.

The Penguins were up, then down, and then won the cup in the past 6-7 years. Detroit, New Jersey and Colorado have been up consistently (COL went down for one season due to injuries). The Sharks? Despite their chocking have been beautifully managed. Boston was remade, twice and now are set for many years to come due to proper asset management. Ottawa made the finals, we haven't reached the third friggin round. Should I go on?

Our Pro Scouting and Development is a joke, for the record.

To list all the GMs that have done an objectively better job than Gainey is to list 20 names. The GMs who've lasted till now that have been objectively worse?

Polie
Wadell
(Buffalo - forget his name)
Ferguson/Fletcher/Burke
Maloney
edit:
Jacques Martin - resigned (he's a horrid GM)
Garth Snow? - Too early to tell

It's a pretty short list.

Just keep in mind that the team assembled before he arrived had missed the playoffs 4 years out of 5, and that since he tool over, we made the playoffs 4 times out of 5.

Still, some idiots are bashing him without any consideration.

To say his time is done, that he took the team from one place to another and that it's time to give an opportunity to another guy to push us even higher is one thing.

To say he sucks is just being dumb and ignorant.

I don't know if you're insinuating that I claimed that he sucks. I never did.

Let's be factual and objective about it. Bob Gainey has been mediocre at his job. Making the PO's for 4/5 seasons is nothing to be bragging about when we lost in the first round 3/4 times and got dismantled in the second the other time.

You have 53,3% of chance to make the playoffs
You have 26,6% of chance to make the playoffs and win the round 1

So, Making the PO'S for 4/5 seasons, while not great is not mediocre.

I repeat, it's not great but it's decent...

Making the PO and never been able to win round 2 is a syndrome when a team almost always finish from position 7 to 10 most of the times.

because you cannot draft high profile prospect...

I know all teams have gone though changes, what are the results then?

You try to use big words but they have no real weight since you bring up no clear facts.

Making the playoffs 4 out of 5 isn't bad since 1/2 the league teams don't make the playoffs.
So in the end, he was in the better half 4 out of 5 times. I have trouble seeing how you come to the conclusion that 4 out of 5 times in the better 1/2 of the GMs = being a 3rd tier GM... (no matter how he performed in the playoffs.) If you had said in the middle of the pack, I would have let it slide otherwise bring up the facts.
