Why so negative?

All I see is posts about how awful the Leafs are , Avatar's of facepalm , Complaints about you roster,,,,etc

But the Leafs aren't that bad of a team. You got some good talent and a young superstar.

I just dont understand the anger and depression of some on this board.

You guys have a great young star , A good young goalie and solid depth players. Sure it may not be a playoff caliber team but the future isn't bleak like many leaf fans make it out to be.

You sound like Hawks fans circa 2004 when this was our starting lineup and best line/dpairing/goalie

Kyle Calder - Tyler Arnason - Mark Bell
Bryan Berard - Nathan Dempsey

Micheal Leighton

That is bleak folks,,,,,,,,,,,,, But you guys got some pretty good young talent (Kessel , Scheen) and some quality veteran talent to build your team with.

We're Leaf fans. The sky is either falling or we're planning the parade. No middle ground.

The 40+ years without a cup adds the pressure but you probably know a thing or two about that

Sad thing about the line up you posted are that 3/5th of them have ties to the Leafs

We have no first round pick, that's the problem with many fans. If we can get out of the top 5 pick (which I think we definitely will) then I'll be happy. The only guys who are projected to be better than Phil are the top 3.

The Knicks haven't had a winning season for 9 yrs ( will be 10 this year)

In the NBA your more similiar to the Indiana Pacers (Long stretch of very good teams and success) but then you began to fade

No post-season success since the lockout. Longest playoff drought in franchise history. We were told it would be better this season (no guarantee of playoffs, but a more competitive team), but we are off to our worst start since the lockout and have looked good in only one game (Detroit).

Only good thing is that we finally seem to have a few blocks in place. Kessel, Schenn, Kadri and possibly Gustavvson. But without first rounders for the next two years, we will be relying heavily on free agency to help out our team.

It's the draft pick thing, as mentioned.

We go for so long without the high picks with bubble teams, then we are terrible without the high picks, then we FINALLY get a "rebuild now!" mentality going with management...and it is gone again in a flash. Shock and awe, and we're still fairly terrible.

I agree, I don't think we're as bad as our record would show, and we have some young talent...but it'll be bleak around here for a while.

We haven't made the playoffs in how long now? Four or five years? For me its not the draft picks, its the thought of yet another year of no post-season hockey.

As others mentioned it's the picks. This team will be bad for at least 5 years. Our only hope is is some of the home town boys come home with a discount and if history is any indication that only happens once they turn 36+.

You can't "enjoy" losing, when your team has no draft picks in the top 5 (if that will be the case...which I think it will).

I think Burke underestimated the crappy teams of last season.

Last years worst:

Islanders - Tavares/Okposo/Streit (surprised how well they've done)
Tampa Bay - Lecavalier, Hedman, Stamkos, Tanguay, St. Louis, Malone, Ohlund
Colorado - Wolski, Hejduk, Stastny, Duchene, Liles, C. Anderson
Atlanta - Peverly, Kovalchuk, Kane, Little, Pavelec, Enstrom, Kubina
L.A - Where do I start?
Toronto - Kessel, Gustavsson, Kaberle, Schenn?

- AND THE REST OF THE LEAGUE WAS BETTER THAN THE LEAFS LAST YEAR

Yea but Fletch didn't convince Mats, Tomas, Darcy, Pavel and Bryan to waive the NTC/NMC that JFJ handed out, and BB traded away 1st round picks and refuses to tank and RW didn't call a time out. We have so many things to complain about. No time for positives.

I am negative about the present, worried but a little optimistic about the future.

We could add picks at the trade dead line by trading some UFA´s. We can exploit other teams need to get under the salary cap in the summer seeing as we will have some room there and we have some promising players to look forward seeing more from in the near future. And we have always the UFA market to explore to get some help in.

We see so many great players born and raised here in TO and then see them play in far off distant places

You know what. I don't care what draft pick it is, But if Kessel continues to play the way he has, then we've won the trade.
