I was wondering what guys like Tony Marinaro, PJ Stock and Mitch Melnick make?
Do these guys get paid six figures or is it a modest salary like $50,000 a year?
Anyone know?
Note: This is just for personal knowledge and curiosity, I am not thinking of doing it!
Probably between 50K to 100K, depending of the experience. I doubt more than that. Obviously some of them may also have other sidelines in communication (beside their steady show).
These numbers are straight from my ass, if you're asking.
A few years ago the salaries of some newspaper journalists were made public and I remember the better paid were in the 100K+ I remember being surprised at the general reaction of indignation. For me, getting paid these kind of figure is perfectly fair considering you are experienced professional and are constantly under the spotlight.
all driven by ratings. How do the Team 990 ratings compare to the top music stations in Montreal?
I'll guess $200K for a good primetime (morning and afternoon commute) guy in Montreal.
The other guys, $100K +
Many years ago they did a magazine article about celebrity salaries in Toronto.
At the time John Gallagher did the morning sports reporting on Q107 and did the CITY Tv sports report on the evening news. His salary was listed as $350K.
I don't know how that split out between the TV and radio gig, but he certainly didn't have his own 4 hour show like the guys on 990.
Radio salaries are traditionally very low with notable exceptions for the stars. Melnick probably makes double or more what anyone else on the station makes. Marinaro and Stock might make 50G+ (except Stock doesn't work nearly as much as Marinaro does) but I'd be very surprised if anyone other than Melnick makes 6 figures. Course they can supplement their salary lots of other ways.
some guys do more than hosting a radio show, such as doing the pre game/post game shows, or doing pbp for one or more of the local teams. I bet you get alot of hook-ups with sponsors and stuff with this type of job too
Lots of people chiming in to answer but to add a couple, radio personalities can get paid to host events, to do live remotes, to show up to promotions, they can get supplemental media jobs, write columns, get regular paid guest comment gigs. Etc.

Yeah, so...
Marinaro get's to eat at Masi for free, Pasta Masi!!!
PJ Stock get's free chicken wings and Guiness at McKibbin's west island
Basically, ask yourself how replaceable they are, and there's your likely answer. Guys on TV who do series, shows, movies, whatever, they wanna change the character so they give you a ******** to stay. Radio is not exactly the same but there's some of it there too. They get ratings, regulars and so on, changing might change that, so unless they guy is average or just started, he prob gets a very good pay.
100% Melnick makes over 100k (not that much more than 100 though)
Does anyone ever get the impression that Tony and Mitch hate each other?
Maybe because Marinaro is getting better and better at what he does and he might soon be the main talk show host on the station!
In regards to hating one another...
Tony and Melnick might not get along
PJ Stock and McGuire dislike one another and prefer not working with one another
Picard and McGuire do not like one another
Bennett and PJ Stock are not the best of friends
Do not ever mention Francois Gagnon and PJ Stock in the same sentence
despite the fact that he made a few millions total during his nhl career, Benoit Brunet probably makes more than any of you guys right now (including me, obviously)
