Ottawa's Faceoff Domination

How logical do you think it is that the home ice advantage helped Ottawa in the Face-off circle ?

They get to put their sticks down second. On top of the obvious line matching advantage.

Thoughts ?

I think you won't see that happening again. It was an anomaly. The Leafs have two of the best face off artists in the league and Sundin ain't so bad either.

I wouldn't put too much thought into it. We dominated them the last two games at the faceoffs, and it didn't help them much anyways last night.

The Leafs in general have better face-off specialists than Ottawa. What we whitnessed the other night in Ottawa in the face-off circle was likly simply a blip in the radar.

Yea Yea Yea ... I know all this

But do you think it was the home ice that made the difference in last nights game.

And you can never under estimate the importance of winning draws.

Home ice made no difference in my opinion, they just had an on night in the face off circle or the leafs had an off night. Take your pick. We will know tomorrow wheather or not this dominance was a fluke or not I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if Martin's had them reviewing tapes of faceoffs to prepare for last night. The Leafs have to adjust somehow, as they can't afford for that to happen again.

That's what I was thinking too, the leafs have to acknowledge that and it wouldnt hurt watching a tape themselves to prepare for Game 4 because we need to be sharper on the draw

I also think that won't happen again with Francies and Niewy. The leafs have scored the first goal in all three games I hope that trend continues

That is much easier to do when you are the only team that scores a goal in 2 of those games, eh?

I doubt dropping the sticks 2nd makes much of a difference. It is a possibility that Martin has taken advantage of faceoff matchups.

Spezza beat Reichel 6 of 7 and took only 11 faceoffs
White was 9-14, but 7-10 vs. Sundin and Nieuwendyk
Smolinksi was 15-18 including 11-11 vs. Francis and Nieuwendyk
Bonk was 7-17 and 4-8 vs. Sundin
Fisher was 4-7 with a fairly even distribution

Could Martin's line matching be due to faceoff preferences?
