Montreal wins 8-1

Habs: Bergeron (3), Mara, Stewart, Pyatt, White, Leach
'Canes: Sutter

Not content with allowing first NHL goals twenty seconds apart to John Scott and Robbie Earl in his last start, Leighton allows four first NHL goals against the Habs. Bergeron will score a hat trick of unscreened slapshots from the blueline, then Mara will score on a floating wrister (first goal of the season, of course) that beats Leighton because he randomly tripped over the net while moving post-to-post.

Leighton being Leighton

He went down a solid second and a half too early on that one. Easy goal for anyone with any kind of skill.

Guess who was trailing that 3-on-2!

Answer: our fearless captain, who is now -17.

Damn... Just got here, watching on NHL. It's in french, and Chuck isn't syncing up at all.

Oh, and we're down. But that's to be expected.

Brindy is already - 17. Goddamnit. Captain must retire after this season.

It's sad to see how quickly Brindy has fallen from being the best defensive forward in the league to the worst.

It has everything to do with speed. He was never by any means FAST but he's always been average to above average. That knee injury last year really set him back in that department and it looks like he'll never recover what he lost.

Sadly, playing with Yelle and Conboy may actually be an upgrade compared to Brind'amour and LaRose. At least Yelle isn't on pace to go -70.

Yeah, you're right. I don't think his defensive instincts have dulled much, but it's because he just can't keep up now.

Positives: we had more tirs a but than the Habs.
Negatives: everything else.

It's to bad about Brindy but it is what it is. The game has passed him by in many ways and though the +/- stat can be blown out of proportion and deceiving, with Rod it just seems to be the result of his play. There is no way Rod has the legs or hands to play this game anymore, atleast not in the role he is currently in, and I question his decision making on many nights. Last year he ended up being 2nd worst in the league in the +/- column only to Islanders (worst team in the league to boot, so it's to no surprise) defeceman Brendan Witt (-34), while Brindy was a -23. This season it seems all to much of the same as he sits worst in the league with a -17.

The number could be inflated due to Brindy playing minutes he shouldn't be, but I won't say it is a result of our poor team only because we were about a .500 team for a lot of last season yet Rod still couldn't put it together and looked quite bad for the majority of the season. And again, when you lose your legs, hands and your decision making goes south, the end is near.

I hate to say it, but if this continues pace, which by all means looks likely, and I hear Rod say at the end of the year he still feels he can play, it will likely be face-palm worthy. If he does come back for the final year of his contract, the coaching staff best decrease his role. I love the guy and love what he's done for the organization as much as the next person, but either retire at seasons end or for the sake of the team, diminish his role.

Of all the players, why is Sammy the goat? In all the games I've seen (admittedly limited) he's been playing well. Brindy, Cole, and several other players, including most of our D, have been playing much worse then he has.

It just makes no sense to me. Of course, most of what Mo has done this season makes no sense to me.

If he doesn't retire on his own accord, then JR needs to grow a pair and force him to retire by buying his arse out. Give him an assistant conditioning coach job or something but please don't let him suit up as a player.

Edit: I haven't really been paying attention eating dinner, but to regards with Sammy on the 4th, could it have been a partial line change. I've seen Kostopolous in his normal line (Yelle/Conboy) as well. And Nevermind, he's out there now with Yelle/Conboy.
