Should Bernier Get Called Up?

Does anyone believe that this is the time to let Bernier give it a try up in the NHL? We should have given him a try-out in the first 10 games but that didn't work. Quick needs a break Ersberg looks bad just from that one game vs Rangers but I still do not have hopes on him that much. Thoughts? I am not saying to keep him up for a long time but to see how he matches against the skill in the NHL.

Coincidentally, there is a poll about this very same subject on another site

Quick's save percentage is back under 90% and Ersberg never plays anyway. Wouldn't be a terrible idea.

The Kings score 1 goal for the second consecutive game and people talk about the goaltending.

I am not basing this question off of these last two games. I am speaking in general. I would have asked this question if the Kings were on a 4 game win streak or whatever. I am saying what could be at stake if we play him now? It is still very early and I think it can help his confidence as well.

OK....well then your timing is suspect.....maybe if you started this thread on an off game day....but after a 2 game losing streak sounds like there is an agenda attached.

If Quick disappoints this road trip and the two games at home against the Flyers and Flames, then I don't see why not.

Yesterday the answer was no.

Today, still no.

It will be no tomorrow.

In April, guess what? No.

Talk to me in October of 2010.

Can Ersberg be sent down for a two week conditioning stint? If so then we should send him down and give Bernier a call up. Even if he only plays a game or two I'm sure his wallet would like the change of scenery!

Ersberg needs to show Murray that he can be trusted in net. If Quick feels like his job can be taken from him he'll raise his level of play. We need these two to push each other.

How any Kings fan could want to see Bernier called up really baffles me.

This orgaization has a horrible history of mishandling prospects, goalies in particular. Not to mention, we have a GM with a track record of developing great goalies. He knows how to do it.

Let's develop a goalie properly for once. The only reason he should be called up is if there's some sort of injury catastrophe, and even then I'd rather see Zatkoff.

Don't **** with Bernier's development. It's going to pay off.

Just for the sake of full disclosure: Jonathan Quick had 74 games of professional hockey(38 ECHL 33 AHL 3 NHL) under his belt before he got the chance to be the everyday backup in LA. Jonathan Bernier currently has 71 games of pro hockey(67 AHL 4 NHL) under his...

Yeah, Quick was rushed due to massive injuries. So far it doesn't seem to have ruined him. The jury is still out though. You think the LA Kings will get that lucky twice?

Me neither.

Good God no. Quick lets in his fair share of softies, but he's a good goalie who has been left out to dry by our defense more times than I'd like to remember.

He also has made some ridiculous saves that have single handedly kept us in games we eventually won. Murray, and more importantly Lombardi, are going to ride out Quick pretty much all year. Unless he's injured or pulls a Labarbera for a good 10-15 game stretch, then we can start talking about calling up Bernier.

You know what, I could go on, but I'll just post this:

When your starting goaltender is tied for second in the NHL in wins, you shouldn't replace him, no matter what his save percentage is.

Wins seem a terrible way of evaluation in light of the fact:

(1) The offense has often been very good; and
(2) the Kings have mor egames played than the entire league, often by 3-4 games over other teams

Although bringing up Bernier doesn't mean Quick gets replaced. You can do what Boston does with Rask.

What is Ersberg contract for this year?

The answer is no. Bernier has a good thing going down on the farm. It's early but the Monarchs have a chance at going deep in the playoffs this year. That will be huge for Bernier's development.

I wouldn't mind seeing a deal for Biron that sends Ersberg to the Island. Biron has a cheap contract at it ends this year.

GG that's funny - Quick is given a pass, yet so many here equate Garon's play here with Cloutier.

Garon also let in his fair share of softies, but he continually gets railed here like he was no better than ____(insert name of ANY Kings goalie over the last 10 years - except Potvin)_____.

Garon stole games. Quick has once or twice over the last 1 1/2 seasons, but his soft goals have also lost games.

Sorry for the short history rant, but I get soooo tired of everyone saying Quick is the best goalie we've had in many, many years, when it's clearly not the case (yet).

And no, I don't think Garon should still be playing here - but I do think it's time for Quick to step up to the plate and play to such a high level that it makes TM's decision on who should start in net an easy one.
