Rink Help

is there anywhere to play in the Northern Florida area(I hate living in FL, no good hockey spots)?By Northern Florida I mean, St. Augustine, Palm Coast, and Orange County.I've tried yellowpages and google, and i only got 1 rink in Jacksonville but its too far from where I live.I live in the worst part of Florida for hockey,Hastings, FL.

Any help?

If nobody helps you here, you might be able to check on the Lightning or Panthers board- there might be some folks there who live in Northern FL and might be able to help you out. You may have better luck finding an inline facility in that area though. :/

Palmbeach Skate Zone may be close enough to you. (http://www.pbskatezone.com).

Also, this page may be of help - lists a lot of rinks in FL: http://www.arenamaps.com/arenas/Florida.htm

Good luck to you .... like stated trying out the Panthers or Lightning board may point you to someplace special.

Good luck!

i tried the Panthers board still no reply for about 3 days, but i did email the North Florida Hockey Association President and he said the closet arenas to me are in Jacksonville and Daytona unfortunately. He also said there has been talk about building a rink in the St. Augustine area which would be perfect for me, but he said its just talk.

Damn man I feel badly for you, I should be happier about having to drive 10 to 30 miles sometimes to play.

I have 2 rinks in my home town area I play at too .... about 8 rinks altogether in close enough range to play in.

I proclaim I will think of folk like you and never complain about driving to a rink ever again.

yeah, Jacksonville is about an hour away from where I live and Daytona is even farther, so I'm hoping this Greg Nolan guy(the President) can make something happen in my area

Well I wouldn't say its a dump, my big complaint would be that the ice isn't great at all, but if you have very high rink standards I guess you could say its a dump. Id rather play at a dump than not play at all though. =]

That's awful. I wonder if living in Tampa or Miami is any different when it comes to rinks?

That's an ownership problem in your area. Also, a true lack of commitment by the NHL in that area as well.

The NHL in the South just isn't going to work unless the league follows the standards that the Dallas Stars have set.

Before the Stars came to town, there was one ice rink here.

After all these years there are now at least 8 in the DFW metroplex area. Not including the little patches of ice here and there.

The Dallas Stars have done a tremendous job at investing in the community by co-sponsoring rink building. The Dallas Stars have Dr Pepper Star Center locations(6 total around town).

They have actively helped build several rinks around town, and have attracted high school, youth and adult rec league interest.

I am sad to say that it's a shame that the ownership groups in Florida don't do the same.

The only way you can actively build upon your fanbase is to invest in your city. Build rinks, build up young fans...draw interest...make money.

what me and my dad plan on doing is creating a Synthentic Ice Rink, NHL Rink sized, in our backyard and start our own league. We'll call it the "Redneck Hockey League".We'll advertise in the St Augustine area, the Jacksonville area, and the Palm Coast area.I think that would be our only option
