Which player do you wish stuck with Philly?

Daymond Langkow - a solid 60 - 70 point a year guy since the trade (1st round/Carter). I really with he would have stuck in Philly and I would take him over Jeff Carter today.

Fail

I wish we kept Forsberg instead of moving him originally (by moving Brind'Amour instead) or that we keep Brind'Amour instead of Lindros in 2000.

Completely agree. Langkow is at the end of his career while Carter is just beginning.

Wow, really? A 60 - 70 point guy for a Point Per Game 40 goal scorer?

Anyway, I wish Sbisa could have stuck in Philly.

Second

33 year old Langkow had 21 goals and 49 points in 73 games last season with a cap hit of $4.5

24 year old Jeff Carter had 46 goals and 84 points in 82 games last season with a cap hit of $5.0

One is clearly far superior to the other.

I don't know about that - there have been some doozies.

As far as players I wish were still Flyers - Handzus. The Flyers have been looking for a solid 3rd line centre/faceoff specialist since Zeus left.

Eric Lindros.

Obviously, w/o the off-ice blunders and the unfortunate injuries.

Briere is soft too, but would you trade him for someone with less points who is even older?

Hmm...if they were significantly cheaper and on a shorter contract...yes.

I don't think there are many that would disagree that Carter doesn't play like he has sandpaper in his cup. If he developed a little bit of snarl in his game, he'd be unstoppable.

He doesn't initiate physical play, but he's played through a lot of injuries, and doesn't shy away from the physical stuff if someone else brings it to him.

I get frustrated with his apparent lack of energy (which is partly caused by his effortless skating style), but I don't think soft is the right description.

I loved watching Markov play, it's unfortunate he's done stuff to knock himself off about every team he's ever played for.

Well, Langkow would save the Flyers half a mill.

So would you trade Briere for someone older who makes $6 and gets almost half as many points?

(edit: if it was an expiring contract, maybe, haha)

I think my answer here is the same as most other people's....the man we lost in the worst Flyers trade of all-time, on that fateful day of March 5, 1994.

I really think it falls under the...if you're a 40-goal scorer, and a PPG player, keep doing what you're doing son. Carter is never going to look like Richards out there....and, frankly, he shouldn't try to play like Richards because he has a different skill-set. If he tried to play like Richards then he wouldn't be able to take advantage of his wrist shot the same way, nor would he be using his speed the way he does.

I know its not really possible based on the trade, but those are just the first 2 guys that come to mind.

Its odd how Markov has been unable to stick anywhere for the duration of his career. Its a shame because the guy was just a warrior and left it all out on the ice every night. I have a lot of respect for the way he plays the game

Yeah, I mean I think Briere's contract is problematic now...in two years, it's going to be a nightmare.

Eh, it's not really "odd." He was a bit of a party animal off the ice by all accounts, and didn't take very good care of himself. While he was here there were stories about how he needed cigs so bad that he'd literally run off the ice after practice and light up without taking his skates off. When you're investing millions of dollars and bringing in 21 y/o kids with millions of dollars invested in them, I imagine Markov made teams a bit nervous with that stuff, thus he bounced around.

He was awesome for that season, however. Easily one of my favorite players to watch while he was here...

Langkow would have solved a lot of problems for this team along the way, that's for sure. But at the expense of Carter...?

I'd sure like to have Dennie Seidenberg on this team, if we're talking realistically.

Handzus, probably my favorite player of at least the last 10-15 years, loved that guy.

EDIT: I also miss Recchi, sure he's awful at this point (I watch Bruins games, he really is bad), but he was huge for us in the 03-04 regular season at least, I still remember him throwing down with Smolinski in that Ottawa brawl.

I agree, Carter isn't Richards, but we have both. They both fill their roles, so let them do their thing.

Do I think Carter could be a little more physical? Yes.

Would I ever move him? NO.

46 goals in the new NHL with no real setup man = keeper

We have Carcillo and Lappy if we need fights, Carter just needs to go out and do his thing.
