Steve Downie

No explanation needed.

Also would be fun to have had Roenick for longer.

last season carter looked great! right now, imo carter just looks bored and uninterested out there...

maybe if the kid could focus, he could actually get some of his shots on net

JVR looks great, and even Carcillo is looking great.. Carbomb reminds me a little bit of a young Mark Recchi

I know we're already far too deep at center but reality aside, I'd love to have Umberger back.

No explanation needed for Steve downie? I just want to know what is so obvious about wanting him back that I am missing. I thought the Steve Downie fun stopped when last season ended.

Well, he was playing LW here as it was...and quite well.

Steve Downie

2 goals, 5pts, 44 PIMS in 18 games

A real headturner.

Sbisa will be.

And Downie isn't desired on the roster for his hockey skills per se.

Are you joking? Carter has been flying this year. Last night he hammered both Frolov and Kopitar, he's generating loads of chances, winning faceoffs and, basically, continues to be one of the best players on the ice in every game he plays.

I'm not sure if people realize how much the other teams have to worry about his speed and ability to walk through their whole team. It's a huge factor in the Flyers' success - that and being able to shut down the other team's top lines on a regular basis...

His shots haven't going in, yet, but it's not for lack of effort or interest. Late in the game he had an open chance and fired one of the hardest wristers this year that just glanced off Quick's shoulder or it was labeled. He had a few other good chances to score too. Any success that Briere and JVR are having is partially due to their own good play and partially due to the fact the other 5 guys are all watching Carter.

Oh, and in response to the thread topic, how good would Justin Williams look in a Flyer uni now?

Agreed, however -- Sbisa won't ever be half of what Pronger is (talking within the context of the trade).

True about Sbisa, but I was focused on the 'current roster' portion of your comment.

The Flyers currently have enough guys who possess what Downie brings to the table... and they're better at it right now.

Right, you give to get and hopefully the Pronger trade works out in the long-run (I think it requires that we have multiple deep playoff runs). But missing Sbisa is perfectly valid in this context, cuz I do think he's going to be a good D.

Eh...Carcillo is the only one close to the "anything might happen at any moment" quality that Downie brought with him, and while I have my qualms about Carcillo he isn't completely bat**** like I think Downie can be at times.

He's also not as skilled as Downie is, especially along the boards. If I had my choice between one crazy ****er vs the other one, I'd go with Downie any day.

Well, that may ultimately be true...but I think Carcillo is a bit safer bet for this team at this moment...and, as I've noted consistently, I don't even trust him at that. I'm not sure we need any crazy characters on this club as its currently constructed.

I think maybe that's it.

Hopefully you recall that I defended Carle and Coburn when they were being torn to shreds by the mob here, just earlier this year.

Go look at pages 4 through 6 of last night's GDT to see what running with the crowd looks like (Boucher-bashing).
Also, you voted for Bush. Twice.
