Random question about Chris Pronger

Sorry for the random question, but when Pronger was with the Oil, who was his partner on the blue line? Was is someone consistently, or a round-robin of players? Just curious.

actually your right. But I do know when he was paired with Smith, they were playing a defensive role most of the time.

He was best with Bergeron. They matched perfectly.

From what I can recall, usually Spacek, Bergeron and Smith.

Yeah, it was mostly Bergeron dureing the regular season. Then near the end of the year when the Oilers acquired Spacek and he started playing with Staios, Smith got moved up to play with Pronger.

I'm guessing a lot of people here didn't start watching the Oilers until the playoffs that year, because he didn't start playing with Smith until after we aquired Spacek and Tarnstrom. He was paired with Staios for most of the regular season. He did play some with Bergeron, but it wasn't as much as people here seem to think.

I'm pretty sure they were first matched up in November and were a regular pairing through till the trade deadline. They may have been broken up at points, but I'm almost positive on this.

This is how I remember it too. I remember reading many newspaper articles at the time talking about MAB's progression playing with Pronger.

He started with Smith for a bit, then went to Bergeron, and finally Spacek. I remember when Pronger and Bergeron were split up, MAB struggled mightily.

Bergeron looked AMAZING with Pronger. That's probably the entire reason he got that multi-year extension. (At least it was cheap.) Just proves how good Pronger really was.

Yeah, he looked "amazing" for maybe the first 20-30 games. Look at Matt Carle this year, leading the league in +/- while being paired with Prongzilla. After that mini but solid stretch, MAB came back down to earth and basically fell off the map for the remainder of the season, because Smith and Spacek became the regular pairing partners for Prongzilla.

Whoever was sucking the most at the time. Understandably that happened to be MAB more often than not.

Proof that Pronger could make any dman look good no matter how bad they were.
